YouTube personality Alex Choi has been cleared of all federal charges following the dismissal of the case linked to his widely-shared helicopter fireworks display incident.
In 2023, YouTuber Choi, renowned for his thrilling auto content, encountered significant legal issues following the removal of a video called “Lamborghini Demolition with Fireworks.
The footage displayed a helicopter firing off fireworks above a swiftly moving Lamborghini, which was situated on the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed in California – a well-known location among car-related content producers.
Law enforcement officials accused Choi of “instigating the installation of an explosive or inflammable substance on an airplane,” a crime punishable by a maximum of 10 years in prison, if convicted.
The video spans roughly 10 minutes and 45 seconds, with the initial three minutes featuring intense action sequences. During this time, a pair of characters portraying police officers converse about pursuing a speeding individual.
Later, we see a woman boarding a helicopter. In following scenes, it appears that two women are inside the flying helicopter, and they seem to be launching fireworks from within, directing them at a Lamborghini sports car on the ground.
Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration took away the helicopter operator’s pilot license due to their behavior being considered a dangerous risk to others.
Federal charges dismissed
On July 3rd, the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Office discontinued supervision over Choi and dismissed all accusations against the YouTube personality, as they verified that he met all requirements for pretrial diversion.
As long as the Federal Aviation Administration’s disciplinary measures against the helicopter pilot are still active, Choi can carry on with his content creation without the constant fear of facing federal charges.
