YouTuber Meltdowns in Court After Life Sentence Upheld

In 2024, a South Korean YouTube personality who fatally stabbed his rival outside a courthouse reacted angrily when the judge confirmed his life imprisonment.

On May 9, 2024, the YouTuber known as ‘Joddoltv’ went on trial in Busan and was broadcasting live when he was suddenly attacked from behind by a rival YouTube personality with the surname Hong, who began viciously stabbing him.

Hong and Joddoltv had a prolonged history marked by many legal battles and disagreements. On the fateful day, Hong was making efforts to stop his adversary from testifying in court, as he had previously accused him of assault.

56-year-old Hong was arrested by police and made a court appearance in November. After receiving a life sentence for his actions deemed a “retaliatory murder,” he rose, respectfully bowed towards the judge, and then began to clap.

On April 10th, 2025, the YouTuber’s tune took an unexpected turn when the court decided to maintain his life sentence.

YouTuber restrained by security after courtroom chaos

The Busan High Court’s decision to maintain Hong’s life imprisonment led to an emotional outburst from him, as reported by Korea Joongang Daily.

“What happened to the decision about canceling my detention?” Hong asked.

While the judge reiterated that the decision had been made, the YouTuber kept yelling out.

He asked, “How did you arrive at your conclusion?” Then, looking at the prosecutor, he requested, “Could you please clarify your thought process behind this?

Despite the judge’s attempt to move on to the next case and commence a new trial, Hong persisted in his outbursts and started shouting about Korea’s ex-President.

“Is this only allowed for Yoon Suk Yeol?” he shouted. “Is this country owned by Yoon?”

The situation led to a group of prison officers encircling the YouTuber and taking him away from the courtroom, even as he kept shouting loudly during his exit.

Surprisingly, this incident isn’t an isolated event; another streamer named Airi Sato was stabbed to death in March 2025. While streaming live to more than 6,000 viewers, she was walking the streets of Shinjuku when a man armed with a knife attacked her.
