A YouTuber became popular online after he and a group of 50 friends went into a Subway right before it closed. They managed to keep the store open for another hour so everyone could get their orders.
I’ve noticed a trend on YouTube where creators test the limits of store policies. Sometimes they’ll try to return things just to see if they can, or check how strictly a store enforces its opening hours. A lot of these videos are presented as ‘life hacks,’ but honestly, it seems like a lot of them are just about seeing if stores actually do what they say they will!
YouTuber 4Fun decided to test a Subway store’s policy of serving all customers, even near closing time, to see if they would follow it.
Just before closing time, he confirmed the store was still open and led another 50 customers inside.
YouTube’s Subway “stress test” leaves viewers split
The store quickly filled with customers, and the Subway employees immediately started making a big order: 30 turkey sandwiches, 20 ham, and 10 Philadelphia cheesesteaks.
Customers were shouting orders to the workers, specifying their preferred sauces and salad toppings for their sandwiches amidst the busy atmosphere.
The store workers stayed open an extra 50 minutes for a customer named 4Fun, who spent nearly $500. He was so pleased with their service that he also left them a $500 tip, split between the two employees.
“You guys deserve it,” he said. “Thank you so much, you guys are great, we love you.”
Short segments of the video, originally posted on April 20th, are now circulating on other social media sites, and people have had a somewhat varied reaction to it.
One person angrily stated, “That was a really awful thing to do! It’s not the company leaders who are being harmed, it’s the workers.” Another added, “I initially thought those guys were terrible, but then I realized they only gave the two employees $500 for maybe an hour or two of overtime.”
It was a cruel thing to do, regardless of the $500 offered. These are people with families and those who care about them, and they deserve better treatment. Offering money doesn’t excuse the way they were treated.
Fifty people have a chance to win free Subway food by finding and confirming a meteorite sighting in the night sky.
