YouTube Will Introduce New Restrictions For Livestreaming Teens

Starting from July 22nd, there will be an update in YouTube’s policy regarding who can live-stream on the platform. This change could significantly impact many young individuals as it increases the minimum age for livestreaming to sixteen years old.

Starting from now, YouTube’s guidelines (as reported by Insider Gaming) are changing. Creators who wish to livestream on the platform must be at least 16 years old. For those aged between 13 and 15, they can still participate in livestreams but only if an adult is visibly present with them. If this condition isn’t met, their live chat function will be deactivated, and temporarily, their account might lose access to certain features like the live chat.

These new measures could affect young content creators who are trying to grow an audience online without adult oversight, yet they signify YouTube’s commitment to ensuring children’s online safety. Importantly, this policy applies only to livestreaming; for now, there don’t seem to be any changes in the age limit for posting pre-recorded videos.

They tightened safety measures for their youngest users, preventing those under 13 years old from accessing unrated experiences or social hangouts. This move was made in response to persistent concerns that the platform wasn’t doing enough to safeguard children from potential threats posed by unwanted individuals.
