YouTube to Crush Disney: World’s Top Media Power by 2025?

According to a financial expert on Wall Street, it’s predicted that YouTube will soon become the globe’s largest media conglomerate, overtaking Disney.

Google acquired YouTube in 2006 for approximately $1.65 billion, and since then, it has nurtured the platform over nearly two decades, helping it grow into a dominant player within the media sector, known as one of the industry’s leading brands.

By 2024, YouTube earned approximately $36 billion in advertising income, primarily by working to stop users from utilizing adblock on their site. It’s important to note that this figure does not account for revenue generated from YouTube Premium subscriptions or other income streams.

Based on a Deadline report, analyst Michael Nathanson predicts that YouTube will grow to be the largest global media company, overtaking Disney during this expansion.

YouTube’s revenue may surpass Disney in 2025

2024 saw an astonishing surge in my personal YouTube earnings, nearly doubling the usual ad revenue, raking in an incredible $54.2 billion! What a thrilling ride it’s been!

Due to its significantly larger audience that has nearly doubled compared to rivals like Disney and other major media companies, analysts predict that YouTube will generate a higher revenue than Disney by the year 2025.

“YouTube is also positioned to become the home for all things video,” he said in his report.

According to Nathanson, his assessment is grounded in the company’s control over three main areas: YouTube Premium and Music, YouTube TV, and additional offerings such as channel subscriptions, video on demand, and tools for creators to earn money from their content.

Compared to Disney’s annual revenue of approximately $91.36 billion across various streams in 2024, YouTube still has a significant distance to cover.

According to recent updates, this forecast is based on ongoing advancements being made by the Google-owned company in various aspects of its platform. Specifically, as of March 31st, YouTube adjusted how views on Shorts videos are tallied, thereby bringing it closer in line with platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
