It appears that YouTube is planning to roll out a more affordable subscription option called Premium Lite, which will enable users to eliminate ads on the platform.
Initially unveiled in 2014, YouTube Premium was designed with a focus on allowing users to enjoy ad-free music videos.
YouTube Premium, introduced in 2014, is all about enabling users to watch their favorite music videos without any interruptions from ads.
Since then, it has broadened its services to provide an advertisement-free viewing experience for all videos and entry to YouTube Music, a music streaming service that rivals Spotify, which is owned by Google.
Despite YouTube Premium’s increasing cost, there are rumors that the company is planning to release a more affordable alternative, tentatively named Premium Lite, in the U.S. shortly.
Premium Lite coming to US according to reports
On February 20, 2025, Bloomberg disclosed a piece of news about the new direction for their service. This shift will primarily involve providing podcasts and instructional videos devoid of advertisements.
A source close to the situation has confirmed that “Premium Lite” is set to be unveiled imminently in the United States, Australia, Germany, and Thailand.
In line with our dedication to offering our viewers greater options and convenience, we’ve been trialing an enhanced version of YouTube Premium in various regions, featuring the majority of videos without ads,” shared a representative from YouTube.
“We’re hoping to expand this offering to even more users in the future with our partners’ support.”

The exact price of the upcoming subscription in the U.S. hasn’t been disclosed yet, however, it’s clear that it will be less expensive compared to the current Premium plan which costs $13.99 per month.
But it appears that Australian users who’ve got access to the service are sharing a monthly cost of around $11.99, which translates roughly to about $7.50 USD.
This adjustment follows the disclosure that YouTube’s advertisements, under Google’s ownership, generated approximately $36 billion in a single year, specifically in 2024.
