YouTube Axes Annoying Mid-Roll Ads

YouTube is set to eliminate the most frustrating advertisement format that users typically encounter on its video platform, offering a more enjoyable experience.

Over time, ads shown on YouTube have become more frequent and intrusive, as Google has introduced pause-screen ads and lengthy, unskippable advertisements that can run up to an hour long.

Mid-video advertisements frequently spark disagreements among users due to their tendency to disrupt videos at inconvenient moments, particularly during dialogues. This interruption may lead viewers to stop watching the video altogether.

On the other hand, YouTube is making significant adjustments through a sequence of updates aimed at enhancing the user’s overall experience.

YouTube axes annoying mid-roll ads in new change

As per YouTube, from May 12th, the mid-roll advertisements will be improved by displaying them during “normal pause moments” or transitions, as they refer to these intervals.

This implies that there will be significantly less disruptive ads that seem to interrupt or cause viewers to stop watching, such as during a sentence or an action scene.

Viewers will appreciate this shift, as it’s refreshing not to have advertisements interrupt crucial moments in videos, causing a disruption to their viewing experience.

Additionally, YouTube shared that videos previously uploaded by February 24, 2025 will receive manual mid-roll ads inserted at more organic moments.

It’s worth noting that the platform anticipates a rise in mid-roll ad earnings following a test carried out during the summer of 2024.

Content creators were cautioned that if they continue to rely solely on manual mid-rolls, especially when they disrupt the flow of their videos, they might notice a drop in earnings starting from May 12, 2025. This is because we plan to enhance the quality of mid-rolls after this date.
