Tommy’s tears of grief could also be guilt
In the video game, Joel is patrolling alongside his brother Tommy, who’s unresponsive, while Joel himself endures torture and meets a tragic death. Conversely, in the TV series, Tommy stays behind in Jackson, whereas Joel teams up with Dina for their patrol duties instead.
The alteration was primarily intended to delve deeper into the dynamic between Joel and Dina. However, it significantly alters Tommy’s part in the narrative as well, and might subtly impact the scenes shown in the trailer for Episode 3.
Halfway through the video, you’ll find Tommy seated beside Joel’s body, visibly emotional with tears streaming down his face. These tears might stem from sorrow, as expected. In a sequence showing Ellie preparing for combat, she inquires about the identity of the braided girl, who was the one responsible for killing Joel, a fact that Dina is aware of.
In Dina’s reply, it says “Abby,” and the trailer concludes, hinting that Ellie and Abby are heading towards a confrontation.
