When the preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 became available on April 24, some eager buyers likely wondered why such a prominent US retailer as Amazon appeared to overlook a new Nintendo console. However, the absence of the Switch 2 on Amazon was in line with a trend that has been developing for about a year now. In essence, Amazon no longer stocks first-party Nintendo products, so you can only find third-party games and accessories related to the upcoming console on Amazon’s platform.
No Switch 2 preorders at Amazon? No surprise there.
If you often purchase first-party Nintendo Switch games, it likely wasn’t shocking to find that the Switch 2 isn’t listed on Amazon’s U.S. website. To clarify, this discussion pertains solely to Amazon in the United States. Contrastingly, Amazon UK continues to stock Nintendo products, including the Switch 2.
Last spring, the pre-orders for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on Amazon ran out of stock. However, when Amazon didn’t replenish the remastered version of the GameCube classic, it became evident that something unusual was taking place. From then on, games slated for release in 2024 and 2025 by Nintendo for the Switch were no longer listed on Amazon. The list of missing titles included several highly anticipated releases: Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Additionally, Amazon stopped offering older Nintendo Switch exclusives that were previously available for purchase. Furthermore, you can no longer buy digital games, eShop gift cards, or Switch Online subscriptions from Amazon.
the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, the console bundles for Black Friday 2024, and this year’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch OLED console bundle. The stock of the Switch Pro and Joy-Con Controllers is exhausted, and the Nintendo Alarmo, a first-party gadget from Nintendo, was launched without being listed on Amazon.
Initially, Amazon wasn’t exclusive when it came to selling first-party Nintendo games; Walmart’s online platform followed suit in this trend, though their physical stores continued to stock Nintendo games on release day. However, as the year progressed, Walmart began offering Nintendo exclusives online before a game’s launch. This year, the situation between Walmart and Nintendo has returned to normal, explaining why you can now find the Switch 2, along with all its Nintendo-made games and accessories, at Walmart.
Why did Amazon stop carrying first-party Nintendo products?
It is believed that Amazon might be interested in selling Nintendo products. However, neither company has provided an explanation for their previous retail partnership ending. We speculate this could be due to issues with Nintendo’s stock last year that affected only Amazon and Walmart. Both companies have a history of offering discounted Nintendo games and accessories outside of official sales promotions. For instance, it was common to find Switch games discounted by $10 or more. Since Walmart’s situation with Nintendo changed, most first-party game deals at Walmart are now sold by third parties.
Currently, you can discover the previously mentioned 2024 Nintendo games on Amazon, although they are third-party listings that appear at launch. Additionally, you will find a variety of region-free Nintendo games on Woot, an Amazon-owned discount store. Notably, Woot has adopted a practice of listing Nintendo’s games on their release day with $10 discounts. This practice began following Amazon’s decision to stop selling Nintendo games, so consider this fact as you deem appropriate. However, it remains uncertain if this trend will persist when the Switch 2 is launched on June 5.
Amazon will still carry licensed Nintendo products
The Nintendo products that aren’t available on Amazon from the retailer are primarily consoles, games, and accessories specifically produced by Nintendo. This exclusion applies to items such as the latest Pro Controller, Joy-Con 2, authentic carry cases, Switch 2 Camera, and Amiibo figures, with exceptions being the Switch 2 console and Mario Kart World bundle console.
You can anticipate that more listings for Switch-exclusive products from other companies will appear, while Nintendo itself won’t be releasing such items. For example, Amazon recently added Hori’s officially licensed Piranha Plant Switch 2 Camera to their platform this week (unfortunately, it’s out of stock now), and games like Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut (published by Sega) that are exclusive to the Switch.
This explanation is behind the fact that you can still find new Lego Super Mario sets and Little Buddy plushies on Amazon. Unlike these items, which are produced in partnership with Nintendo, they are not officially released by Nintendo. Instead, Amazon offers a separate selection of Nintendo products, specifically focused on video games.
Important Information: Neither Amazon nor Nintendo have provided updates regarding the situation, so it remains unclear when Amazon will start selling first-party Nintendo hardware and video games again. As of April 25th, there’s no indication that the situation will change soon, given that it has been a year since Amazon ceased selling these Nintendo products.

Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers at Amazon
In a sea of Switch 2-compatible controllers available on Amazon (with numbers potentially reaching into the hundreds or thousands), we’re bringing attention to two standout choices today. One of these is the recently launched 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller for Switch. This premium controller boasts four additional customizable buttons, adjustable trigger locks, TMR electromagnetic analog sticks (superior to Hall Effect), three personalized profiles, and a wealth of internal customization options. It should operate with the upcoming Switch 2 via Bluetooth directly, and there’s a possibility that the included USB-C dongle will be compatible for 2.4GHz Wireless as well.
The Switch 2 Pro Controller comes with two reprogrammable rear buttons, while the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 offers extra functionalities as you can see from the image above. Notably, it’s $15 less expensive in stores, and currently, Amazon is offering a 10% discount on it.
For individuals preferring alternative designs to Nintendo’s Joy-Con Controllers due to their form factor, the GameSir G8 Plus is an intriguing choice as it offers a Bluetooth connection that can accommodate both Nintendo Switch and iOS/Android devices with screens up to 8.5 inches in size. Given that the upcoming Switch 2 boasts a 7.9-inch screen, there’s no apparent reason why this professional-style controller wouldn’t be compatible with Nintendo’s forthcoming console.
- 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller (Black) — $63 (
$70) - 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller (White) — $63 (
$70) - GameSir G8 Plus Bluetooth Controller for Handheld Mode — $80

Given that this technology is relatively new, there are limited options in the market today. Despite Amazon being a popular destination for storage device deals, microSD Express Cards on the platform have yet to offer significant discounts.
