Whodunnit in Poker Face Season 2 Episode 2?

In the second episode of Poker Face Season 2, it’s revealed that the character played by Giancarlo Esposito, named Fred Finch, is responsible for a tragic event. Specifically, he ends up taking the life of his wife, Greta, portrayed by Katie Holmes.

In the storyline, Fred, who owns a funeral home being utilized for a film production, unexpectedly discovers that the very same location offers an ideal setting for hiding his wife’s murder.

He kills Greta by brutally hitting the back of her head with a hot iron poker, followed by burning her remains in the basement of the structure.

Later, he collects her non-cremated remains instead of ashes, and molds them into a vinyl disc of his cherished melody: ‘Sleep Walk’ by Santo & Johnny.

Fred’s motive in ‘Last Looks’ explained

At the age of 18, when Greta tragically lost her family, Fred played a significant role in arranging their funeral, became a mentor to her, and later wed a significantly younger woman.

However, as Greta grew more confined within the union, both the film team, along with Charlie (portraying a corpse), inadvertently stirred her desire to escape, eventually leading her to depart for Miami, embarking on a fresh start.

But Fred doesn’t want a divorce, so rather than lose her, decides to murder Greta.

How does Charlie catch Fred?

In essence, Charlie uncovers Fred’s repeated deceit due to her unique talent for detecting dishonesty. Subsequently, two errors related to a light and a phone lead to Fred’s demise.

The splash of blood resulting from Greta’s fatal head injury lands on a lightbulb, which catches Charlie’s attention. Furthermore, she discerns that the picture he claims shows her being alive is in fact three years old.

In the game of our lives, I found myself face-to-face with Charlie. But before I knew it, Fred took action, delivering a blow that left Charlie unconscious. He then shoved her into a coffin, intending to reduce her to ashes. But just when all seemed lost, Cale managed to break free. Using his vape, he detonated the incinerator in a flash of fire and smoke. As flames engulfed the room, Cale made a swift exit, leaving Fred trapped within the burning ballroom, grooving to ‘Sleep Walk’ as the fire consumed him.

Who is Beatrix Hasp?

However, Episode 2 doesn’t end there, as while Charlie is trying to flee, the mob boss Beatrix Hasp points a gun at him instead.

In simpler terms, Beatrix (portrayed by Rhea Perlman) serves as the leader of five crime families, is the proprietor of the Hasp Casino in Atlantic City, and holds a grudge against Charlie due to events from Season 1. This lingering resentment could position her as the main antagonist for Season 2.

At the end of the episode, Charlie discovers a cigarette in her vehicle’s glove box and decides to take a puff on it. Just as she does, Beatrix emerges and chides her, saying, “Charlie Cale, you should be well aware that cigarettes can prove fatal for you.

Charlie replies, “Beratrix Hasp, I see,” to which Hasp concludes the episode, saying, “There’s still some outstanding matters between us, mate. Let’s settle this, shall we?” (or more casually, “Let’s get this show on the road.”)
