You Won’t Believe What’s Missing From The New Minecraft Movie

In the collaboration between Jack Black and Director Jared Hess for the making of a Minecraft film, it may bring to mind certain iconic movies they’ve done together. Interestingly, one reference that crossed over was unintentional.

In our latest film escapade, we find ourselves traversing the actual Overworld, with Black assuming the role of Steve, a grown man longing for the mines who unexpectedly got trapped in the Nether.

Fortunately, a group of misfits and outcasts manage to rescue him by finding the orb needed to open the portal. However, before they can return to normal lives, they must eliminate the Piglins completely.

In a different phrasing, for Black, gaining control isn’t merely about unexpectedly releasing hit songs; instead, it’s a fierce battle against opponents, much like wrestling. And concerning Minecraft, it wasn’t intended as a tribute to another famous film.

Minecraft director says Jack Black is born to be a wrestler

In A Minecraft Movie, Black’s physical skills may evoke memories of Nacho Libre, the 2006 comedy in which he portrayed Ignacio, a chef who transformed into a wrestler to earn more income. However, speaking with TopMob, director Jared Hess – who helmed both films – clarifies that the resemblance was unintentional.

In essence, Jack truly shines when executing Lucha Libre wrestling maneuvers,” Hess pointed out. “I believe his physique is incredibly appealing during those moments, and it seems as if these moves are second nature to him. I’m convinced that his combat style will forever be associated with a wrestler. Whether he’s battling zombies or the chicken jockey, he simply excels.

Initially, Steve helps the group by engaging in battles against groups of enemies using a turret. However, at a later point, he confronts an entire Illager gang, including the chicken jockey, acting as a decoy.

Producer Torfi Orlafsson remarked that it’s clear that people employ stunt performers in such cases, and Jack happens to have an experienced one who’s been in the business for quite some time.

However, during scenes where Jack battles zombies with a single continuous shot, showcasing his karate moves, punches, and ripping off their limbs, it’s all Jack. His agility, strength, and lethal abilities are truly remarkable.

“Jack Black is in my top five athletes of all time,” Hess joked.

In the year 2018, it was confirmed that Black expressed his desire to create a follow-up for Nacho Libre. During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Black mentioned, “I’ve always had a passion for another Nacho Libre,” implying he would be open to revisiting the role post the movie’s debut in 2006.
