The teenage years are currently setting new records at Netflix, and the British crime drama is expected to join the ranks of the platform’s largest limited series ever.
Since its release on March 13, 2025, adolescence has sparked quite a sensation. It ignited intense discussions and debates across social media platforms, and shattered numerous viewing records on Netflix.
The show, drawing inspiration from actual events and a lengthy true crime docuseries, centers on the apprehension of a 13-year-old suspect in a murder case. Across its four episodes, it explores the ripple effects of this crime on the accused’s family, his school, and the boy personally.
The program has been lauded for its outstanding main performances and the unique technique of filming each episode in a single continuous shot, aspects which have significantly boosted its popularity.
Adolescence sets record for limited series on Netflix
During its initial week on Netflix (March 10-16, 2025), Adolescence garnered a staggering 24.3 million viewers, securing its position as the most popular show on the platform during that timeframe.
In its second week, from March 17-23, the show persisted in its broadcast, amassing an additional 42 million views for Adolescence, bringing the grand total to 66.3 million. As reported by Variety, this is more than any Netflix limited series has managed in just two weeks. Remarkably, Adolescence reached this number in a mere 11 days.
During its run, adolescence has broken viewing records in the UK, marking it as the initial streaming program to secure the top spot on the weekly British chart and simultaneously attracting the largest audience of any streaming series within a seven-day period.
Initially, Deadline highlighted the viewership numbers for Barb’s reports. According to these reports, approximately 6.5 million viewers tuned into Episode 1, while Episode 2 drew an audience of around 6 million. Notably, both episodes surpassed The Apprentice, which was the most-watched terrestrial show in the UK with 5.8 million viewers.
