So Yakovenko pops up and says, “Hey! Let’s just, you know, create a new blockchain on top of your blockchains. No big deal. We’ll call it a meta-blockchain, because who needs fewer blockchains?” 🤷♂️
Solana Co-Founder Wants a Meta-Blockchain Because Apparently, We Need More Things Called ‘Meta’
It’s like storing your leftovers, but now you need a bigger fridge, because apparently, we’re hoarding data everywhere. Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder and, I guess, resident idea-machine at Solana, lobs out the idea for a meta-blockchain. This thing would take a bunch of different chains—Solana, Celestia, Ethereum, whatever’s trendy—and smash their blocks together, so you can post data wherever it’s cheapest. Bargain hunting for data! Why not, right?
Yakovenko’s out there on social, typing away, basically saying: “Just dump your data anywhere—Ethereum, Celestia, Solana. Then we’ll slap a rule on it and somehow, magically, merge all the data into one giant, glorious chain.” Because merging complicated systems always works out, doesn’t it? Sure, that’s never caused a problem ever. 🙄
There should be a meta blockchain. Post data anywhere, Ethereum, celestia, Solana, and use a specific rule to merge data from all the chains into a single ordering.
Cheap data! That’s the dream. He claims this would let everyone chase the best price for dumping their digital junk—like crypto’s version of waiting for Black Friday deals at Best Buy. “Everything’s cheaper, bandwidth’s the only thing left to complain about,” he says. Yeah, Anatoly, and my router still hates me.
This Frankenstein’s monster of a blockchain would apparently spread data all over, so even if one chain takes a nap, your data’s still out there. Super decentralized! Or maybe just super confusing? People can pick whatever’s faster or less expensive, as long as you can actually follow what’s going on. “Throw in a deterministic rule and hope for the best,” seems to be the motto here. 🧑💻
And don’t worry, he’s already got a plan. Make a transaction reference all this stuff—a sort of “look, mom, I did my homework” move. If you’re posting to Solana, just tack on the latest block from eth and celestia. Easy, right? Right. What could possibly go wrong? 🤦♂️
