The highly anticipated film “Thunderbolts” is only a few days away, and as it gets closer to its release, Marvel Studios are finding it difficult to keep secret the unveiling of Lewis Pullman’s character, Bob – better known as The Sentry. “Thunderbolts” marks the finale of Phase 5 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and brings together heroes that were previously introduced in movies such as “Black Widow,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” However, the much-discussed new addition to the team, who happens to be one of the main antagonists, is none other than the famous Marvel character The Sentry, whose darker persona is known as The Void.
As the release of “Thunderbolts*” approaches, the official account for the mobile game “Marvel Future Fight” unveiled a fresh banner, announcing that players would have an opportunity to acquire costumes inspired by the movie for their characters within the game. The official artwork provides a detailed view of Sentry’s distinctive gold costume with a blue cape. The art showcases the entire team from “Thunderbolts*” and the costumes that players can secure in “Marvel Future Fight“.

Behold, The Sentry! Or Bob! Or The Void Or Whatever!
It’s no secret that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprising their roles as Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is widely known, but the possible inclusion of the character, the Sentry, in “Thunderbolts” might come as a close second. When it was initially announced that Steven Yeun would be part of “Thunderbolts”, Robert Kirkman, creator of “The Walking Dead” and “Invincible”, accidentally revealed that Yeun was cast as the Sentry. The trailers for “Thunderbolts” have presented the character as Bob, with his Void persona only recently being unveiled. Interestingly, the marketing for the movie has not shown the actual Sentry costume at all. However, a leaked toy of the film’s official Funko Pop! figure has inadvertently revealed the identity of The Sentry.
In the artwork for Marvel Future Fights, The Sentry’s costume adheres to traditional designs by retaining the classic gold and blue color scheme from the comics but with a more robust, seemingly engineered appearance. This outfit design seems tailored and strategic, as if created through focus groups and market research, which leads one to speculate that Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) might have been involved in its creation, doesn’t it?
After the premiere of “Thunderbolts”, Marvel Studios is poised to unveil numerous official images showcasing the character’s costume and delving deeper into this version of Bob/The Sentry/The Void. Already, it has been confirmed that Lewis Pullman will reprise his role as Bob in “Avengers: Doomsday”, indicating not only will The Sentry survive the storyline of “Thunderbolts”, but he could also prove to be a formidable ally against Doctor Doom. This raises an intriguing question: Will The Sentry, who is often referred to as Marvel’s equivalent of Superman, influence viewers’ perceptions of DCU’s Superman, debuting just two months after “Thunderbolts”? Given the imminent return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU, the Avengers will undoubtedly need all the assistance they can get.
Perhaps, we’re still left pondering the significance behind the small asterisk found in the film’s title.
