Disney and Pixar have unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming animated film titled “Elio“. This release is timed with ticket sales for the latest adventure offered by these studios. Following the highly successful debut of “Lilo & Stitch“, the next anticipated production from Disney is another science-fiction, family-friendly buddy comedy, “Elio“. In this Pixar production, we follow the story of an 11-year-old boy named Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab), who finds himself as Earth’s ambassador unintentionally after being transported to a council of extraterrestrial beings. This unexpected turn of events leads him to forge friendships and save the galaxy from an impending intergalactic crisis.

As a movie enthusiast, I eagerly waited for tickets to go on sale for the much-anticipated Disney-Pixar film, “Elio,” on May 27, 2025. To mark this momentous occasion, they unveiled an exciting new trailer. This trailer shares some similarities with the one released in March 2025 prior to “Snow White,” offering a deeper understanding of the movie’s core narrative and the unique friendship between Elio and the alien character Glordon, portrayed by Remy Edgerly. For those who haven’t seen it yet, you can catch a glimpse of this intriguing trailer below. It also provides a sneak peek into some thrilling action sequences that the film has in store for us. Enjoy!

Can ‘Elio’ Become a Surprise Box-Office Hit?

The movie, originally titled “Elio,” went through significant transformations behind the curtain. Instead of debuting in March 2024 as initially planned, it was postponed for more than a year due to major revisions. As a result, Domee Shen, who directed “Turning Red,” and Madeline Sharafian, a storyboard artist, replaced Adrian Molina as the directors. Previously scheduled before “Inside Out 2,” “Elio” is now the sequel to one of Pixar’s most successful films, following in its footsteps.

The fate of Pixar’s success with original animated films rests on the shoulders of “Elio”. This is because we want to see if they can still enchant audiences and fill theaters with their unique creations, as they did with movies like “Ratatouille”, “WALL-E”, “Up”, “Inside Out”, and “Coco” which became massive hits. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic and Disney’s decision to release many Pixar original animated films directly on Disney+, such as “Soul”, “Luca”, and “Turning Red”, the brand suffered a significant blow at the box office. The spin-off sequel “Lightyear” underperformed, but “Elemental”, another original film, managed to regain some ground and become a surprise hit. Nevertheless, its box office earnings were significantly lower than those of “Coco” just a few years ago.

Movie titled “Elio” will encounter significant competition at the box office. To dodge a clash with “How to Train Your Dragon“, its release date was shifted by a week. The blockbuster is expected to record its highest opening weekend ever. Apart from competing against “How to Train Your Dragon” for family audiences, it also has to vie with “Superman“, set to release a few weeks later and aiming to attract a younger audience compared to the previous version, “Man of Steel“. As for Disney’s sci-fi animated films, the studio is hoping that “Elio” will be more like the successes “Lilo & Stitch” or “WALL-E“, rather than the less successful titles such as “Strange Worlds“, “Treasure Planet“, and “Lightyear“.
