Despite appearing as if Dexter’s tale had reached its conclusion after his character was believed to have perished, it seems that a relentless killer like him just can’t stay down for long. In less than a month, we’ll be diving back into the world of Michael C. Hall’s iconic vigilante serial killer, Dexter, and this new chapter is being titled “Dexter: New Blood.” Naturally, that calls for a fresh trailer to stir up excitement for this sequel to “Dexter: New Blood.” Indeed, it appears that there are some surprises in store.
In 2013, when the series Dexter concluded, leaving some fans feeling let down by its finale, it appeared that the days of Dexter’s murderous exploits had come to an end. However, nearly a decade later, Dexter: New Blood resurrected the narrative, introducing fresh elements to the franchise and welcoming back Hall in his iconic role. Moreover, last year introduced another surprise to the franchise with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’ve been quite impressed with the consistency across all three series, receiving scores ranging from 70-77%. The anticipation for “New Blood” is particularly high, given its position at the top end of that scale. We’ll find out if “Resurrection” can maintain this trend when it premieres on Showtime on July 11.
‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Is a Mix of the Old and the New
Following on from the original “Dexter” series, the spin-off titled “Resurrection” boasts a deep roster of characters to delve into, yet promises fresh developments on established storylines. Joining Michael C. Hall as Dexter are Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, James Remar as Harry Morgan, David Zayas as Angel Batista, John Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell, and Jimmy Smits as Miguel Prado. Newcomers to the franchise include Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian. In keeping with expectations, the series will find Dexter once again in action, confronting new antagonists while grappling with figures from his past. The synopsis for the show goes as follows:
[Synopsis for the series]
In the story “DEXTER: RESURRECTION,” we find Dexter Morgan (played by Hall) recovering from a gunshot wound inflicted by his own son. Harrison (portrayed by Jack Alcott) has mysteriously disappeared, and Dexter embarks on a journey to New York City to locate him and set things right. However, finding peace won’t be straightforward. As Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) shows up with queries, Dexter recognizes that his past is rapidly closing in on him. As father and son grapple with their own shadows in the bustling city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves in a predicament far worse than they could have imagined—and the only escape might be working together.
Although the original series “New Blood” was intended to be the final chapter for Dexter, the show’s popularity has made “Resurrection” quite fitting in its title, as it is not viewed as a one-time event or a standalone offering. Previously, Michael C. Hall, who reprises his role, commented on his return to the franchise:
Instead of returning for a single, standalone event, we’d prefer to keep it open for future developments. Our aim and aspiration is for the narrative to evolve past this point.
