Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone’s ‘Bugonia’ Sets New Fall Release Date

As a film aficionado, I’m thrilled to announce that “Bugonia,” the eagerly anticipated joint project from visionary director Yorgos Lanthimos and the talented Emma Stone, is set to debut earlier than expected!

The film ‘Bugonia,’ inspired by the South Korean sci-fi comedy ‘Save the Green Planet,’ is centered around a pair of friends with a penchant for conspiracy theories. They abduct the CEO of a large corporation, believing she’s an extraterrestrial bent on destroying Earth. The cast includes Jesse Plemons, who collaborated with Stone and Lanthimos in ‘Kinds of Kindness,’ along with Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.”

“In the movie ‘Bugonia,’ a reimagining of the South Korean sci-fi comedy ‘Save the Green Planet,’ we follow two friends who are conspiracy enthusiasts. They seize the CEO of a major corporation because they think she’s an alien out to destroy Earth. The cast is led by Jesse Plemons, who has worked with Stone and Lanthimos on ‘Kinds of Kindness,’ alongside Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.

Lanthimos is directing a film written by Will Tracy, who has previously worked on “The Menu” and “Succession.” Stone and Lanthimos are collaborating again as producers through their companies Fruit Tree and Pith, following projects like “Poor Things,” “The Favourite,” and “Kinds of Kindness.” Other producers include Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures, Ari Aster and Lars Knusden from Square Peg, and Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko from CJ ENM.

Focus Features emerged victorious in a competitive bidding process for the movie “Bugonia,” marking a new partnership for Lanthimos after Searchlight Pictures distributed his last three films: “The Favourite” from 2018, “Poor Things” scheduled for 2023, and “Kinds of Kindness” set for 2024. A24 had previously handled the distribution of two of Lanthimos’s movies, namely “The Lobster” from 2015 and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” in 2017.

The studio’s upcoming lineup features several exciting projects. These include “Hamnet,” directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley; Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme”; the musical drama “Song Sung Blue,” which stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson; Ronan Day-Lewis’ directorial debut, “Anemone,” featuring his father Daniel Day-Lewis; and “Honey Don’t!”, directed by Ethan Coen and starring Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Evans.
