In the game ‘Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon‘, there are numerous quests to discover. With so many individuals requiring assistance, it can be challenging to reach them all, but it is achievable. Upon your initial encounter with the Keepers following your escape from the Island Asylum, you’ll need to demonstrate your worth if you hope to uncover the truth about King Arthur and gather the fragments of his soul.
Your initial task involves assisting Fearghas and the Keepers in resolving their local issue with undead entities. But things might not be exactly as they appear. Here’s a guide on finding the root cause and the appropriate solution!
Where To Find Margh
Once you decide to lend a hand to Fearghas in dealing with the local undead predicament, he will guide you to locate Margh. Exit the keep and make your way northwest towards the Forgotten Graveyard. Along the journey, you’ll encounter some bandits and renegades.
You’ll stumble upon Margh huddled near a campfire within some old ruins. Chat with him to gather more information about the predicament at hand and the threat that the undead pose towards the Keepers and the people of the south. Once you’re prepared, you can venture into the Forgotten Graveyard.
How To Stop The Undead In The Cemetery
Within the graveyard, you’ll find both skeletons and corpse scavengers waiting for you. Dispatch them swiftly and search their remains for any useful items before venturing into the crypt itself. Once inside, you’ll encounter Huardoc, a helpful undead character who serves as a guard for the necromancer that occasionally visits.
His loyalties are to the cemetery itself, not to any specific master.
You could either persuade him to hand over a key for you to access the crypt, or offer him five gold coins to help with the maintenance costs. In both cases, you’ll be able to enter the crypt. Now, head down the stairs and unlock the gate to get started.
Within, there are numerous skeletons and creatures that feed on corpses for you to defend against. They’re strategically placed throughout the ruins. Be cautious of the stone statues as you delve deeper into the crypt. One will suddenly become animated and attack you, making it a formidable adversary.
Being made of stone, they’re tough and hit hard. Make sure you have potions and keep your distance!
Beyond them lies the innermost room, where necromancer Yorath is waiting for you. Before you can engage in battle, he’ll initiate a conversation with you. Contrary to what the Keepers suspected, he isn’t planning to raise an undead army; rather, he’s engaged in research on how to utilize the dead beneficially for the living.
You have a choice to make here. Should you kill the necromancer or let him go?
Should You Kill Yorath?
There’s a chance to persuade Yorath, but it’s unlikely. If you don’t prepare beforehand, chances are you’ll end up in a confrontation. However, if you spare his life, you could acquire a spell from the necromancer.
Here are two options for you to choose from when speaking with Fearghas about Yorath:
1. You’ll have an opportunity to deceive Fearghas by saying you didn’t kill Yorath, or
2. You can be honest and tell him the truth. Either way, the issue of the undead will be resolved.
You could additionally choose to convince him to halt his actions, then strike unexpectedly before he becomes aware of the situation.
How To Defeat Yorath
When battling Yorath, he wields formidable magical abilities. He summons undead minions to bolster his defense in the fray. Should you manage to corner him, you can swiftly vanquish him, and his summoned skeletons disintegrate afterward.
In tight situations where you’re low on health, consider using throwing knives and arrows as a means to keep your adversaries at bay. Alternatively, protect yourself by employing a shield. If combat becomes too challenging, take advantage of the crypt’s layout for strategic retreat, prolonging the fight to regain the upper hand.
After Yorath has passed away, feel free to search through his remains for a suit of necromancer armor, along with additional items such as a Skull Staff and assorted spells. Don’t forget to explore his study too, where you might find valuable materials for your alchemy work.
Where To Put Yorath’s Remains
You might want to visit Huardoc first before heading back to Fearghas. He needs to be informed about his master’s end. Since the necromancer’s death, he has been sensing it and now must clean up the crypt. After that, he plans to rest for a long time. However, before he does, he requests your help in burying his master’s remains in the prepared crypt for him.
Return to the most secluded room to gather Yorath’s remains, and afterward, proceed past the door that Huardoc has provided a key for. Within lies the tribute areas dedicated to the former necromancers who explored this crypt prior to you.
Feel free to loot the caskets. You can find plenty of alchemical ingredients and useful items here.
Navigate towards the vacant casket and carefully place Yorath’s remains inside a bowl. Feel free to etch an inscription on the stone at the base of the altar, or leave it as is. This action fulfills Huardoc’s request, who has since returned to rest.
Afterward, finish up the task and report back to the Keeper Quartermaster, thereby wrapping things up. Now, you may advance with the “Shadow of the Horns” mission, which is the upcoming quest in the main storyline.
