YES Network, MSG Networks Back Gotham Sports App That Streams Yankees, Knicks, More

As a long-time resident of New York City and an ardent sports enthusiast, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the latest development in the world of streaming sports. The collaboration between YES Network and MSG Networks to launch The Gotham Sports App is a game-changer for us locals who crave easy access to our favorite teams.

As a devoted sports enthusiast in the Big Apple, I’m eagerly anticipating the ambitious endeavors of two titans in local sports broadcasting: YES Network and MSG Networks. Their vision is to elevate New York sports coverage to heights that many larger corporations are yet to achieve nationwide.

This autumn, a sports streaming platform named The Gotham Sports App will be unveiled, jointly developed by MSG Networks and YES Network earlier this year. The app is set to debut before the commencement of both the NHL and NBA regular seasons. By consolidating both companies’ mobile apps onto one platform, it will become possible for users to stream games featuring teams such as the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Yankees.

Fans residing in their respective territories, who subscribe to YES or MSG Networks, will get access to The Gotham Sports App for free. For those without a traditional cable subscription, they can buy services offered by either YES or MSG directly through the new Gotham app, or opt for a comprehensive Gotham Sports package that encompasses content from both services.

The price for the combined package is $359.99 per year or $41.99 per month.

As a movie-goer reviewing the latest streaming platform, I can confidently say that The Gotham Sports App is a game-changer for sports enthusiasts residing in New York City. In a world where sport programming is becoming increasingly scattered across various outlets, this app offers a single, convenient hub to access all your favorite teams’ events from the MSG Networks and YES Network. And that’s not just my opinion; Andrea Greenberg, president and CEO of MSG Networks, expressed similar sentiments in a statement: “The Gotham Sports App allows fans of our teams one easy access point for New York area sporting events.” In essence, this app simplifies the process of keeping up with your beloved local sports teams.

At a compelling juncture, these corporations are introducing a novel service – Venu. This venture, proposed by Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery, aims to offer sports networks to subscribers via a joint streaming platform. Targeted at the youth demographic who usually avoid cable or satellite services for entertainment and video content, Venu was initially slated for release before the upcoming NFL season. However, these plans have reportedly been delayed, possibly temporarily, due to a court order suggesting the merger could be anticompetitive. The companies involved – Disney, Warner, and Fox – have already filed an appeal.

In early January, MSG Networks and YES teamed up to establish Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment, a partnership aimed at finding strategies for generating revenue from their streaming services.

The updated Gotham Sports Application comes equipped with a real-time statistics system, interactive games you can play for free, and a loyalty scheme offering reward points.

“Jon Litner, CEO of YES Network, stated that the fresh Gotham Sports App will utilize top-tier technology from GAME to significantly improve the fan experience, gathering the finest New York sports events under one roof.”
