Yellowstone Fans Shocked: Alex’s Ellis Island Scene Leaves Viewers Disturbed!

In the recent installment of 1923 Season 2, the storyline centers around Alex’s challenging entrance into America, which has left a few Yellowstone viewers finding it hard to take.

In this episode of “1923,” the story briefly shifts away from the events unfolding in Montana to follow Alex’s continuing adventure. We last left her aboard a storm-tossed ship, surrounded by frightened passengers and hoping she would make it safely to America.

Upon her arrival, Alex first encounters a stringent set of examinations, which are both distressing and rough, conducted by immigration officials at Ellis Island, before she’s allowed to step foot in New York.

As a dedicated fan, I found myself struggling through this particularly arduous episode, as it was heart-wrenching to witness such distress inflicted upon an indispensable member of the Dutton family lineage.

Ellis Island scene in 1923 Season 2 disturbs fans

The story opens as Alex prepares to leave her ship in New York. However, instead of heading off immediately, she’s guided towards Ellis Island alongside non-citizens. There, she undergoes a challenging set of tests and scrutinies to demonstrate her suitability for admission.

This involves questioning verbally, a hard blow delivered by an officer, and constant medical examinations where she is undressed and examined from every angle. By the end, Alex is crying, shaken, and feeling violated as a result of this ordeal.

The lengthy duration of the scene left some viewers feeling quite uneasy, and a few commented that they had to momentarily stop the show just to regain composure.

As one Redditor wrote, “I had to pause and take a break from watching. Brutal episode.”

“I’m skipping…thanks for the heads up,” said another, opting to avoid the storyline altogether.

This relates to a major criticism often levied against this series, as well as other productions by Joss Whedon: the frequent depiction of distressing scenarios involving women, such as excessive use of traumatic events and acts of violence.

What’s the reason behind Sheridan consistently subjecting his female characters to hardships again and again?” or simply, “Why are Sheridan’s female characters repeatedly put through difficulties?

Do we really have to see another female character suffering? I think that point has been made. The struggles of immigrating through Ellis Island and navigating life as a single woman in the 1920s are already well-understood.
