Yasumi Matsuno clarifies the localization scripts used by Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles

Yasumi Matsuno, the creator behind the original “Final Fantasy Tactics,” has shared details about the scripts that will be utilized in “Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles.” Announced in June, “The Ivalice Chronicles” is an upgraded remaster of “Final Fantasy Tactics,” and it’s planned to release on September 30 for modern gaming platforms.

Responding to a fan’s plea for the original script in “The Ivalice Chronicles” on Twitter, Matsuno clarified which scripts would be employed across different game modes. He additionally suggested that fans address their queries or comments to Square Enix directly.

Here is a summary of the scripts.

Classic:

JPN : Script of the original version (PS1).

ENG : Script of the Lion’s War version (PSP).

Enhanced:

JPN : New version modified for remastering.

ENG : New version translated from the above Japanese version.

Please contact SQUARE ENIX with any requests. Thank you.

1. “Classic” Mode: This mode mimics the gaming experience similar to the original PlayStation 1 version.
2. “Enhanced” Mode: In this mode, players will enjoy a redesigned user interface, fully voiced dialogue, improved graphics, and additional conversations that weren’t present in the original game.

According to Matsuno’s statement, the Classic version of the game will maintain its original Japanese script and the “War of the Lions” script in English. On the other hand, the Enhanced edition will undergo changes in both languages. The original Japanese script might be modified (perhaps to incorporate extra dialogues and scenes), while the English Enhanced mode script is likely to be based on this revised version.

A potential rephrase: When it comes to the “War of the Lions” script, a complication arises because the storyline in “The Ivalice Chronicles” won’t incorporate the additions made specifically for “War of the Lions”. Characters like Balthier from Final Fantasy XII and unique jobs such as Dark Knight and Onion Knight will not be part of this new series.

On September 30, 2025, the game “Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles” will be released for play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and its upcoming version, Switch 2, personal computers (PC), as well as Xbox Series X|S.
