As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, the announcement of Yakuza Kiwami coming to Nintendo Switch is like finding that long-lost copy of Final Fantasy VII under my old bed. I’ve been following the Yakuza series since its humble beginnings on the PlayStation 2, and the prospect of taking Kazuma Kiryu on another adventure on my trusty Switch is too enticing to resist.
On October 24, 2024, Sega revealed that the remade version of Yakuza Kiwami will be available on Nintendo Switch. Originally a revamped edition of the 2005 Yakuza game, Yakuza Kiwami was initially released on PS4 in 2016, and later made its way onto Xbox One and PC.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that this upcoming release will be the first time a Yakuza title graces the Switch platform. In the role of Kazuma Kiryu, a former gangster, you’ll find yourself back in the bustling entertainment district of Kamurocho after a decade behind bars, wrongfully imprisoned for a crime I didn’t commit. The remastered version, Yakuza Kiwami, not only deepens the original story but also enhances its gameplay mechanics.
In recent installments of the Yakuza series, they’ve started using the “Like A Dragon” title, which is more similar to the original Japanese name, Ryu Ga Gotoku. Games like “Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,” “Like a Dragon: Ishin!,” and “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name” fall under this new naming scheme.
