I was so excited watching the RGG Summit livestream tonight! Sega just announced Yakuza Kiwami 3, which is a complete remake of Yakuza 3 from 2009. From what they showed, it looks amazing! Like the other ‘Kiwami’ games, they’re totally revamping the graphics, adding a ton of new cutscenes and action, and including even more side stuff to do. I can’t wait!
During a recent presentation, director Ryosuke Horii shared more details about the updates coming to the game. Beyond adding new story moments, many of the cutscenes and voice acting from the original Yakuza 3 have been completely re-created for Kiwami 3. The Okinawa locations, a memorable part of Yakuza 3, have also been rebuilt from the ground up. The combat system has been overhauled, letting players switch between Kiryu’s established fighting style and a brand-new “Ryukyu Style” inspired by Okinawan martial arts and featuring more weapon-based attacks. Finally, a new “Dragon Boost” mode makes Kiryu’s already powerful moves even more devastating.
The game also revealed several brand-new minigames. One, called “Life at Morning Glory,” lets players see a gentler side of Kiryu as he cares for children at the Morning Glory orphanage. Another, “Legendary Baddie: Bad Boy Dragon,” features Kiryu joining forces with a group of female Okinawan bikers to help them win turf battles against their rivals.
The game will also include a new story called “Dark Ties,” which takes place right before the events of Yakuza 3. This story focuses on Yoshitaka Mine, the main villain from Yakuza 3, and players will be able to play as him. It lets you explore his background and understand his motivations. “Dark Ties” is included with the main game, and you can choose to play it when you start.
As a big Yakuza fan, playing Dark Ties felt really familiar – it’s a lot like Yakuza 3, and you spend most of your time back in the awesome city of Kamurocho. You brawl using a cool mix of boxing moves and some flashy aerial attacks. There’s even a special “Dark Awakening” mode where you get even more powerful! But it’s not just fighting; there are tons of fun side things to do. I especially loved the “Kanda Damage Control” mini-game where you try to clean up the image of this really awful gangster, and “Hell’s Arena” where you can fight in an underground arena. It’s classic Yakuza fun!
You can now pre-order the digital version of the game on Steam and PlayStation Network. It’s scheduled to launch on February 11, 2026, and the standard edition costs $59.99. A Digital Deluxe edition, which includes extra content, is also available for around $74.99.
