Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel, a popular streamer, subtly criticized Twitch by announcing that the much anticipated Live Rewind feature would only be accessible for users who have Twitch Turbo or a channel subscription.
Over the past ten years or so, Twitch has been the leading platform in the livestreaming sphere, being the preferred destination for top-tier streamers. Whenever these streamers have moved to different platforms, they’ve found themselves quickly requesting that their new platform adopt some of Twitch’s most popular features.
Several platforms imitating Amazon’s model have incorporated features like video clips, a directory system, and chat emoticons, among others. Yet, one key aspect that Twitch has lacked until now is the Live Rewind functionality.
For quite some time now, YouTube has offered this particular feature, and Kick was among the first to incorporate it. Twitch is set to follow suit shortly; however, in order to utilize it, you will need to be a Twitch Turbo subscriber or have a subscription to the specific channel you intend to use it with.
xQc mocks Twitch adding Live Rewind after so long
At TwitchCon Europe, an announcement was made that had folks buzzing, but not everyone was pleased when they realized it would be behind a paywall. As a gamer myself, I couldn’t help but join the chorus of users questioning this move by Twitch.
Streamer xQc, who divides his time between Twitch and the platform Kick, added his thoughts and couldn’t help but make light of the purple service. “That’s a great addition! Chat, that’s something new! That’s a brand-new chat feature, I’ve heard about this before, anywhere, on any platform,” he commented, as viewers pointed out that Kick already has it.
Innovation! It’s similar to when Apple unveils a ‘look at this, we’ve got a new 13-megapixel camera or the like, we’re the first to have it,’ and people have been using something like that for a dozen years or so.
For quite some time now, Twitch has offered a rewind feature; however, if you wish to go back just a short while ago, you’d need to wait a few minutes for the VOD (Video on Demand) to sync up with the live stream. Introducing Live Rewind will address this issue.
By signing up for Twitch Turbo, you’ll gain the ability to rewind streams on any channel, which seems to be one of Twitch’s primary objectives.
