Streamer xQc has voiced criticism towards Solo Leveling’s Anime Awards victory, even going so far as to label its artwork as subpar and describe the series overall as uninteresting.
2025 saw Solo Leveling triumph at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, garnering four prestigious awards, including Anime of the Year and Best New Anime Series. Yet, this victory has stirred disappointment among fans as they feel that deserving contenders such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Dandadan were overlooked.
Fans of Anime express strong disagreement over Solo Leveling’s Sung Jinwoo being named Best Main Character, pointing out that characters like MaoMao and Frieren were more deserving of the title. However, it’s not just anime enthusiasts who question the validity of the win; even xQc has voiced his opinions on this contentious decision in the world of anime.
xQc slams Solo Leveling Anime Awards win
During a recent live broadcast, xQc expressed his views about the Anime Awards and offered a candid critique of Solo Leveling. “I’ve watched Solo Leveling,” he remarked, “but honestly, I can’t understand why people were so excited about it. In my opinion, it simply doesn’t deliver.” The streamer voiced his criticism.
From the beginning, Sung Jinwoo seems excessively powerful with no clear explanation. Additionally, he frequently disregards the rules of the game.
In a lively manner, xQc emphasized that Jinwoo consistently executes astonishing plays which grant him an advantage over formidable opponents, pointing out his exceptional mana regeneration rate as one of the most breathtaking scenes in the series.
1. “Apologies, seems like I’ve run out of energy. Now, miraculously, I have unlimited power! Uh, I’m a bit short on information here, let me ponder on this. I’m at the peak of intelligence! Wait, I thought I was going to die, but it appears the game has other plans. Frustrating, I can’t quite grasp it.” (Informal)
2. “Gosh, it looks like I’ve depleted my energy source. Incredible, now I have an endless supply! Say, I find myself a tad uninformed, let me mull this over. As for knowledge, I’m at the zenith! Hang on, I thought I was near death, but it seems the game is keeping me alive. Quite perplexing, I don’t understand why.” (Formal)
The Twitch broadcaster, too, expressed disapproval towards the show’s animation style, arguing that it had taken inspiration from an iconic adversary in another anime series.
I share your opinion that the artwork seems unrefined and lacking in effort. Additionally, it appears that Solo Leveling may have taken inspiration from Hunter x Hunter’s Chimera Ants, but unfortunately, it seems to have fallen short even more. I’m puzzled as to how they managed to make something less impressive.
Whether you’re an enthusiast of Solo Leveling or simply enjoy different anime series, don’t miss out on the top 10 shows currently streaming on Crunchyroll that are worth your time!
