xQc loses it at “busted” Twitter algorithm always promoting Elon Musk posts

As a long-time gamer and avid Twitch/Kick streamer, I can’t help but feel the frustration that Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel has been expressing lately. The constant barrage of Elon Musk posts on my feed feels like an uninvited guest at a party – you know, the one who just won’t leave no matter how many times you ask.

Streamer Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel, top on Twitch and Kick, couldn’t conceal his annoyance when he continually encountered multiple Elon Musk posts each time he updated Twitter (Twitter, or X), accusing the “flawed” system of algorithm.

Since Elon Musk snatched up Twitter for a cool $44 billion back in April 2022, the place feels like a whole new ball game to me as a gamer. The vibe’s shifted quite a bit!

The company has undergone a rebranding, now known as just ‘X’, and has made significant changes to its verification procedure. A substantial workforce reduction has taken place, and they are also revamping their ‘block’ system for a fresh approach.

Reports indicate that Musk asked for the platform’s algorithm to intentionally prioritize his posts significantly over others, effectively amplifying his tweets by a staggering 1,000 times.

xQc personally encountered this situation during his livestream on Kick on October 20, and he found it difficult to hide his annoyance due to Elon Musk frequently appearing at the top of his feed.

Wow, it seems like I’m on the verge of going overboard with this, but he exclaimed, constantly updating his For You page and consistently finding posts by Elon Musk at the top. ‘Dude, it’s as if I’m stalking him,’ he said, admitting to checking his phone, laptop, PC, and even an alternate account. ‘Every time I refresh, there he is on my top page. That’s just plain odd.’

He ended his rant by simply saying that it is weird: “He buys the algorithm to favor himself. That’s so weird.”

In response to the alleged changes in the algorithm, Musk criticized the reporting and claimed that the information was provided by a departing employee attempting to undermine the platform (i.e., “poisoning the well”). However, numerous users, such as xQc, have noticed that Musk’s posts frequently appear at the top of their feeds whenever they use the app.

Although Musk hasn’t explicitly confessed to manipulating the algorithm for his advantage, xQc strongly suspects it. He can choose to ignore or mute Musk’s posts if he finds them distracting, or even block him, though the blocking feature has been significantly updated in 2024.
