XDefiant Won't Be Abandoned as Ubisoft Outlines Future Development Plans

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that XDefiant has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. The game initially sparked my interest with its unique blend of familiar and innovative elements, but the hitreg issues and network code have been a thorn in my side. However, seeing Ubisoft’s commitment to addressing these problems gives me hope that XDefiant might finally live up to its potential.

Ubisoft isn’t considering XDefiant a failure; instead, they are adjusting the development roadmap for the game’s first year, which includes the upcoming three seasons. An infographic and an accompanying blog post about the game have been shared, providing more information on these changes.

XDefiant Won't Be Abandoned as Ubisoft Outlines Future Development Plans

Netcode and hitreg to be fixed, progression on the way

The developers have shared plans for further enhancements in their network coding and hit registration system (hitreg), acknowledging there’s still room for improvement since launch. To tackle this, the team overseeing these aspects has been expanded and is diligently working to optimize them. Similar efforts are being made to strengthen the anti-cheat measures as well.

Additionally, there are proposals for the introduction of Prestige mode and private servers – however, they will only be available during the third season. This news doesn’t sit well with some players, along with their dissatisfaction about the absence of certain “fundamental” features in ranked matches. Nevertheless, other details have generated more favorable responses.

XDefiant doesn’t die

What caught players off guard, nonetheless, was the fact that the fourth season of the game was part of the plan moving forward. Lately, there have been whispers that XDefiant’s performance didn’t meet Ubisoft’s expectations and the game has seen a significant drop in its player base. Some had grave doubts about the longevity of this shooter.

Additionally, it appears that the developers are not only strategizing about what’s to come, but they have also confidently declared: “Indeed, the game is not at all dying.” This assertion was made in a post on the Ubisoft blog.

According to executive producer Mark Rubin, XDefiant is showing promising performance. The development team acknowledges issues such as a complex progression system and network code that have been previously discussed, but they are committed to addressing these concerns in order to further enhance the game’s success.

It’s clear that this promise didn’t convince all the fans. Some online users point out ambitious development plans for Anthem, plans that ultimately went unfulfilled. Furthermore, there’s a recent case similar to Concord, which was given a comprehensive roadmap. Yet, despite any negative expectations, XDefiant is not struggling nearly as much as Firewalk Studios’ title has.
