This year, Xbox’s ID@Xbox team is present at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California, “to join forces with the innovative independent developers who continually motivate us through their determination, imagination, and fervor.” The ID@Xbox initiative, introduced by Xbox in 2013, has facilitated the release of countless indie games under the ID@Xbox label, making them playable on Xbox consoles and personal computers.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been fortunate enough to dive into some fantastic titles that have graced the ID@Xbox platform throughout the years. Titles like Among Us, Balatro, Frostpunk 2, Phasmophobia, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and the newly announced gems such as 33 Immortals and Scrap Divers have all left a lasting impression on me. Notably, ID@Xbox Director Guy Richards has shed light on the program’s role in supporting independent developers and how it played a pivotal part in the games’ triumphs post-release.

Guy Richards, ID@Xbox Director, shared via Xbox Wire that the program, which helps independent developers worldwide and brings their games to players on various consoles and PCs, has generated over $5 billion in revenue. This update follows Jason Ronald, Xbox VP of Next Generation’s announcement about 1,000 games being part of the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, allowing players to enjoy these games across supported Xbox consoles and Windows PCs.
Ronald emphasized that after the unveiling of this significant achievement, “It’s clear that titles which support Xbox Play Anywhere have a 20% increase in playtime due to their flexibility, as they can be played on-the-go.” Furthermore, if gamers possess an Xbox Play Anywhere compatible title, they can transfer their game progress, saved games, and unlocked achievements across multiple devices such as Windows handhelds like the ASUS ROG Ally X or Legion Go, smartphones, tablets, and streaming devices like Amazon FireSticks and Samsung FireSticks.
The ID@Xbox team organizes an annual gathering for developers and studios from ten different nations at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025. This event showcases upcoming independent games such as Detective Dotson, Promise Mascot Academy, and Winter Burrow. Furthermore, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, set to be released, is a title launching through ID@Xbox, and its creators, Sandfall Interactive, will also participate in the GDC 2025 ID@Xbox preview event.
