As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a wave of excitement at Phil Spencer’s latest comments about an Xbox handheld device. The thought of a portable Xbox, capable of delivering the same immersive gaming experiences that we’ve come to love from our console, is nothing short of exhilarating!

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly following the updates from Xbox’s CEO, Phil Spencer. Time and again, he’s hinted at his desire to develop a portable Xbox gaming device, and his recent comments have only fueled my excitement!

According to Spencer’s comments to Bloomberg, it seems they are planning to take action in that particular area. As per the latest reports from Bloomberg, Microsoft is actively developing prototypes and contemplating the ideal approach. Additionally, Bloomberg mentioned that Spencer hinted at an Xbox handheld device being several years away from release.

Currently, Microsoft’s design and development team is focusing on enhancing the Xbox mobile app for a smoother gaming experience on existing portable devices. In the distant future, according to Spencer, there may be significant innovation from the team in the specialized handheld gaming market.

In September 2024, a report suggested that the forthcoming Xbox console, Microsoft’s next-gen home system, might be compatible with a standalone handheld gaming device. Microsoft has hinted at this upcoming console, stating it would deliver the most significant technological advancement in Xbox history.

Unlike PlayStation and Nintendo, which have their own handheld gaming devices, Microsoft is unique among the “Big Three” as it hasn’t launched any dedicated portable gaming hardware yet. However, this may not remain true in the future.

During the interview, Spencer mentioned Microsoft’s mobile gaming platform, explaining that its release has been postponed indefinitely. Originally, it was anticipated to debut last July.

Spencer discussed the potential for further purchases, mentioning that he’s continually evaluating possibilities, but there are no immediate plans in place. Furthermore, Spencer didn’t dismiss the idea of Halo 5 appearing on PlayStation 5.
