Xbox Games Showcase: Start Time, How To Watch, And What To Expect

2021 has been quite eventful for the Xbox brand, marked by the successful debut of Doom: The Dark Ages and a number of Microsoft-produced games thriving on PlayStation. While the long-term prospects of Xbox remain uncertain, we’re eagerly awaiting the Xbox Games Showcase slated for June 8th, which should offer insights into what new titles we can expect from Microsoft’s in-house studios and their collaborators in the near future.

After this year’s Summer Game Fest, the show will broadcast a day or two later, featuring a Direct segment specifically for Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG The Outer Worlds 2 straight afterward. In the summer shows of 2023 and 2024, Xbox had longer previews of Starfield and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as their final acts.

What to expect

Apart from The Outer Worlds 2, it’s unclear which games the Xbox team will reveal during their showcase. However, there are other highly-anticipated titles being developed by Microsoft’s gaming studios that might be unveiled this year.

In past events, we’ve caught glimpses of Gears of War: E-Day and a revamped Perfect Dark, and this upcoming presentation would be ideal for disclosing the release dates for both. Additionally, even though the latest Fable game from Playground Games has been delayed to 2026, there’s still a chance we might get some fresh gameplay previews during the showcase.

This summer, Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga will receive a complimentary update, and the developers, Ninja Theory, might reveal when the update goes live and what content it contains. Similarly, Indiana Jones: The Great Circle is slated to receive story-based DLC this year, titled “The Order of Giants.” It wouldn’t be unexpected if we get a trailer and release date for this DLC during this showcase.

From Activision Blizzard’s perspective, they haven’t made an official statement yet about which game will be this year’s Call of Duty release, but there are whispers that it may be a fresh installment of Black Ops, set in the future. A possible unveiling might occur during the showcase.
