Xbox Friend Requests Are Finally Coming Back

As a seasoned gamer, I can’t help but reminisce about the good old Xbox 360 days when the joy of receiving a friend request was as thrilling as leveling up my character or unlocking an achievement. The return of this feature on the Xbox platform feels like a long-lost friend coming home after a decade-long journey!

As a devoted Xbox enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that for the first time since the Xbox 360 era, we, the Xbox community, will have the opportunity to send and receive friend requests! This exciting news was officially announced on the Xbox website through a detailed blog post.

From this week onwards, Alpha Skip-Ahead users on Xbox consoles, as well as PC Gaming Preview members on Windows PCs and handheld devices who are part of the Xbox Insider community, will have early access to a revamped friends and followers experience. This includes improved relationship management options, along with new privacy and notification settings, allowing you to customize your social interactions with Xbox according to your preferences, across multiple devices.

We’re bringing back the option for you to connect with friends again! You can now send, receive, or decline friend requests, as well as follow or be followed by others. We’re currently testing this feature with Xbox Insiders and plan to share more details later this year about its full release.

On Xbox One, the existing friends system, launched concurrently, enables users to include another player on their friends list. However, if that user doesn’t reciprocate by adding them as well, they are regarded as a “follower” and can only access public content shared by the user they followed. Unfortunately, there’s no alert for acquiring a new follower, so it might be simple to overlook a friend or fellow gamer attempting to reach out via Xbox.

While Xbox Insiders and those enrolled in the PC Gaming Preview on computers or portable devices can enjoy the returning feature starting this week, Xbox users who are not part of the Insider program do not yet have a defined timeframe for when they’ll get access to the new friend-request function.
