Xbox-Branded Handheld Planned For Later This Year – Report

It’s possible that we might see an officially branded Xbox handheld by the close of this year. According to recent reports, Microsoft could be collaborating with a well-known PC gaming manufacturer such as ASUS or Lenovo for this device, aiming for a release in 2025.

As reported by WindowsCentral, this new handheld device is known internally as Keenan and is expected to share characteristics with the forthcoming Lenovo Legion Go S, which will be the first device outside of the Steam Deck lineup to operate on Valve’s SteamOS. In essence, the Xbox-branded handheld is anticipated to utilize Windows, boasting the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass as part of its features. Additionally, the system is likely to incorporate an Xbox guide button and a design that aligns with the Xbox brand’s ethos.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft’s Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, mentioned in November that an Xbox handheld device is likely several years away. Previously, Spencer had hinted at the development of such a device as well. This longer-term strategy seems to align with the rumored launch of the next Xbox, slated for 2027. In essence, Microsoft aims to initiate the new generation by introducing a successor to the Xbox Series X along with an internally developed handheld gaming system.

It’s worth mentioning that, as expected, adjustments might occur in this schedule since Microsoft is continually evolving the Xbox brand. For example, WindowsCentral suggests that an Xbox-branded handheld device planned for release this year may function as a trial run for Microsoft. The partnering company has not been definitively revealed yet, and it could potentially be Razer or MSI.

TopMob has contacted Microsoft seeking comment on this report.

Previously, there was a rumor about Call of Duty that hinted at the release of the next Xbox in the year 2026. One point Phil Spencer emphasized is the need for the new Xbox hardware to be notably inventive.
