With the April update for the Xbox mobile app, users can now purchase games and add-ons (DLC), subscribe to Game Pass, and redeem rewards directly. Additionally, players have the option to pre-install a recently purchased game on their Xbox console remotely. This new feature appears to streamline the process of buying games, as Microsoft claims it will take only two clicks from the app to make a purchase.

This update is rolling out soon across iOS and Android.

Stream Your Own Game On Console

Starting from April 16th, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will have the ability to stream select games they already own, as well as supported Game Pass titles, directly onto their Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console. This feature aims to free up storage space on users’ hard drives and allow them to jump into games quicker. It’s an added bonus for Xbox One owners, as they can now stream the latest Xbox Series X|S-exclusive titles on their older devices since the game is being streamed rather than played locally. However, it’s important to note that cloud-streaming requires a robust and consistent internet connection for optimal performance.

To use the “Stream Your Own Game” function, users should:

1. Go to the section labeled “My games & apps”.
2. Then, select the “Full library”.
3. In this area, you will find your “Owned Games”.
4. Games that can be played via the cloud will have a special “cloud badge” on their corresponding pages.
5. For easier navigation, users can filter their games by selecting “Choose Filter”, then “Ready to play”, and finally “Cloud gaming”.
6. If you purchase a new game that is compatible with this feature, you can start streaming it immediately from the Xbox Store app.

Remote Play And Other New Features In The Xbox April Update

In addition to the freshly unveiled enhancements, the April Xbox update empowers users to stream any console-installed game on their chosen device through the Xbox Remote Play website, as long as it has a compatible web browser.

Microsoft aims to achieve a single service by merging Xbox Remote Play and Xbox Cloud Gaming on Xbox.com, which will enable compatibility with more devices, offer broader access to the store within the Xbox app on mobile devices, and simplify the process for their development teams to enhance the streaming experience and create new features in the future.

Microsoft announced that they will soon offer compatibility with certain Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV gadgets, and Meta Quest virtual reality headsets. Additionally, starting in the current month, a selection of original Xbox and Xbox 360 games that are playable through backward compatibility will become streamable via Remote Play.

Additionally, in the April update, there’s a fresh method to clear up storage on your Xbox console. The “Free Up Space” page will now suggest items such as duplicates of games or games that you no longer possess rights to play for various reasons.

Moreover, the game hub pages have received an update, and a changing South of Midnight backdrop for Xbox Series X|S has become accessible, which became available upon the game’s release on April 8.
