Microsoft unveiled a fresh user interface prototype for Xbox, demonstrating how gamers can view their owned games on multiple devices and platforms such as Steam.
According to The Verge’s report, Microsoft initially published a blog post showcasing a new user interface design. However, the image was later taken down. The leaked picture revealed upcoming titles like Diablo IV and Microsoft Flight Simulator within the “Recently Added” section of the UI. Interestingly, it also displayed “Steam” and “Game Pass” tabs, suggesting that users will have the option to organize games based on the platform they were purchased from.
It appears that the user interface (UI) currently shows repetition of “owned” and “action-adventure” tabs, which might be a temporary glitch or an error in the design. The blog post discusses Xbox’s strategy to appeal to a broader audience by providing seamless integration across various platforms since younger generations tend to frequently switch between them. To achieve this goal, Microsoft is planning to create a UI that displays games from multiple platforms, making it more accessible for users. Additionally, there are reports suggesting the development of an upcoming Xbox handheld device, expected to launch later in 2023, as part of their strategy to merge Windows and Xbox libraries into a universal gaming platform offering both console and PC games.
As reported by The Verge, Microsoft is developing an update for their Xbox app that may allow players to view all their games from Steam and the Epic Games Store in one place. However, since this update is still in its early stages, there’s a possibility it might not be released at all. A mockup offers a glimpse into what the final product could potentially look like. Notably, GOG Galaxy already provides similar functionality for viewing games owned across multiple platforms including Steam.
Microsoft is currently expanding the Xbox experience beyond just Xbox devices and making its exclusive games available on competing platforms too. A promotional campaign titled “Xbox: It’s Not Just a Console” was launched, demonstrating Microsoft’s strategy for reaching new user bases.
