There’s a new buzz about who might be in the upcoming X-Men reboot. Sources say Emma Mackey, known for her role in Barbie, is being considered for a part. While the cast isn’t set yet, they have found a director: Jake Schreier, who also directed Thunderbolts. Other actors reportedly being looked at for important roles include Jack Champion and Margaret Qualley.
X-Men reboot rumored to be eyeing Emma Mackey for a lead role
On the December 24th episode of John Rocha’s podcast, he questioned well-known insider Jeff Sneider regarding the latest casting updates for the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Sneider recently mentioned on The Hot Mic podcast that Emma Mackey, known for her role in Barbie, is an actress to watch. Despite starring in the recently released film Ella McCay, which wasn’t a commercial success, she remains a promising talent.
Mackey was seriously considered for the part of Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, and even auditioned with actresses like Phoebe Dynevor and Rachel Brosnahan. Ultimately, Rachel Brosnahan landed the role and will star alongside David Corenswet (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
Reports suggest Emma Mackey might be considered for a role in the upcoming X-Men reboot. This news follows a claim from a reliable source, MyTimetoShineHello, who said Marvel Studios is seeking well-known actors for the film. They also mentioned the script is currently being revised and official casting won’t begin until early 2026.
Jake Schreier revealed in a recent Empire interview that work on the new X-Men movie has begun. He didn’t share specifics about the plot, but described the project as “very, very exciting.”
Schreier explained that working on Thunderbolts* was a great learning experience in directing a film with a large cast, something he hadn’t done much before. He realized the biggest challenge was finding the right balance between action sequences and scenes focused on character development and emotion.
The director of Paper Towns explained that despite the film having more shooting days than any of their previous projects, those days went by quickly because of all the action sequences. By the end of the shoot, they felt like they had finally figured out the best way to approach the film.
There’s no confirmed release date for the new X-Men movie yet, but it’s expected to come out sometime after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in 2027.
