X-Men ’97 Season 2: All Confirmed Marvel Characters and Surprises Revealed

The second season of “X-Men ’97” is approaching its premiere, featuring more than a dozen significant characters from the mutant universe. The first season carried on the narrative established in “X-Men: The Animated Series,” which enjoyed immense popularity in the 1990s, and the reboot has also garnered comparable success under Marvel Studios’ management.

At D23 2024, footage from X-Men ’97 Season 2 was unveiled, revealing nearly 20 characters set to appear in the series. This lineup largely includes the primary mutant cast from X-Men ’97 Season 1, but also welcomes several new faces when the superhero team makes its comeback on Disney+ in 2026.

Every Character Confirmed & Rumored for X-Men ’97 Season 2

Professor X

Without much surprise, it is anticipated that the covert mastermind of the X-Men, Charles Xavier/Professor X, will take center stage for the team as X-Men ’97 advances into its second season. After a brief encounter with the Shi’ar and his subsequent homecoming to Earth, Season 2 will place Charles in a challenging predicament following his mental breakdown while trying to prevent Magneto from destroying the planet.

Magneto

Accompanying Professor X in most of his exploits across various media platforms is Erik Lehnsherr’s Magneto, who is poised to return with a fury in X-Men ’97 Season 2. By the finale of Episode 10, he finds himself transported through time alongside other team members to Egypt around 3000 BC. There, he’ll be forced to collaborate with questionable allies to make it back to the current era.

Cyclops

In the upcoming season, Cyclops, the X-Men’s foremost combatant (Scott Summers), will once again put his formidable optical abilities to use. Leading the team on an interdimensional journey, he aims to restore the correct timeline. Stranded in the year 3900 AD, Cyclops and Jean Grey meet a woman who identifies herself as Mother Askani, a guardian figure watching over a boy believed to be his son, Nathan.

Nightcrawler

In the first season of “X-Men ’97”, the character Kurt Wagner, commonly known as Nightcrawler due to his blue skin and teleportation abilities, made an appearance roughly halfway through the series. He played a pivotal role in several thrilling action scenes throughout. Despite being featured in only a few episodes of Season 1, there are expectations that he will become a permanent member of the X-Men team in Season 2.

Jean Grey

Jean Grey, one of Marvel Comics’ most influential mutants and sometimes Madelyne Pryor, left a significant mark during Season 1 by giving birth to her son, Nathan, and continuing as a member of the X-Men team. By the season finale, she finds herself in the distant future of the late 40th century alongside her husband, Scott Summers. Here, they encounter a more mature version of their son, Nathan.

Wolverine

Following his significant role in “X-Men: The Animated Series”, James “Logan” Howlett, more commonly known as Wolverine, shone brightly during Season 1 of “X-Men” ’97. Regrettably, Wolverine will find himself in a precarious position at the start of Season 2, as Magneto extracted the adamantium from his body, forcing him to undergo an extensive healing process (taking into account his regenerative abilities).

Rogue

In the first season of X-Men ’97, Rogue endured numerous trials following Gambit’s demise and even formed a short-lived alliance with Magneto. However, it appears that she will rejoin her comrades in Season 2. At present, she finds herself stranded in the year 3000 BC alongside Nightcrawler, Beast, Magneto, and Professor X. During their journey, they encounter an early form of Apocalypse. Nevertheless, Rogue’s primary focus remains seeking justice for Gambit.

Bishop

Bishop is recognized for his time-traveling prowess and ability to absorb powers. He made a comeback in X-Men ’97 Season 1, navigating both forward and backward through time. By the end of the season, he found himself back in the year 2055, believing he had fixed the timeline. However, upon closer inspection, nothing seemed to have changed, causing him unease about what might be coming next.

Danger

In Season 2 of “X-Men ’97”, you’ll encounter a character named Danger for the first time. In the original comic books, Danger is a tangible representation of the software that powers the Danger Room, the X-Men’s training facility.

Havok

Additionally, Alex Summers, more commonly known as Havoc, who possesses the ability to absorb energy and emit plasma blasts from his chest, first appears in X-Men ’97. Furthermore, he is the younger brother of Scott Summers, leading fans to speculate if their sibling relationship might be delved into during Season 2.

Polaris

More recently, it was confirmed by Beau DeMayo, who previously worked on “X-Men ’97”, that Neve Campbell will be joining Season 2 as Polaris – a character known from the comics as Magneto’s daughter. Renowned for possessing magnetic powers akin to her father’s, she is also notable for having bipolar disorder in the comics, which serves to highlight mental health concerns.

Sabretooth

In X-Men: The Animated Series, Sabretooth, Wolverine’s brother and a character known for his aggression, was frequently featured. He shares with Logan the same strength, rage, and claws, but is even more formidable. Although he was absent in Season 1 of X-Men ’97, it has been confirmed that he will make a comeback in Season 2 with intense fervor.

Lady Deathstrike

Just like Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike’s body is reinforced with adamantium, which extends into formidable claws on the ends of her fingers. She shares a complex past with Wolverine, as depicted in X-Men: The Animated Series, although she was missing from Season 1 of X-Men ’97. However, she is set to make a return soon.

Warlock

Originating from a distant world, Warlock is a versatile, techno-organic being that has the ability to transform into various forms. Moreover, he possesses the power to convert regular organic material into techno-organic substance.

Apocalypse

In X-Men: The Animated Series and various other X-Men productions, the formidable villain Apocalypse is frequently depicted – he’s known as the universe’s first mutant and one of the most powerful beings out there. In Season 2, viewers will encounter him in his original En Sabah Nur guise, which is expected to rekindle his terrifying presence as a major adversary towards the latter part of the season.

Storm

As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that an Omega-level mutant, none other than the legendary Storm, will make her grand comeback! Known by her iconic name Ororo Munroe, she possesses the unique ability to manipulate weather patterns for her benefit. After a brief stint in Season 3 of “What If…?” as Storm, the Goddess of Thunder, Storm promises to be a central figure to watch out for in Season 2 of “X-Men ’97”. The mystery surrounding her current location only adds to the anticipation!

Beast

The character Dr. Hank McCoy, more commonly known as Beast, will reappear in his intellect, strength, and blue fur form for the second season of X-Men ’97. Last we saw him, he was at the mansion cleaning up after the fight with Bastion, but details about his storyline for the upcoming season are yet to be revealed.

Forge

Joining the ranks of X-Men ’97 during its first season was Forge, an ingenious tech-savant capable of constructing a vast array of items. As we move forward into Season 2, Forge finds himself trapped in the same timeframe as Bishop and is determined to reunite his team by escaping this temporal predicament together.

Mother Askani/Rachel Summers

In the final episode of Season 1 for X-Men ’97, Scott and Jean encountered a formidable mutant named Mother Askani, who turned out to be an alternate version of their daughter, Rachel Summers. With the ability to control the Phoenix Force, similar to her mother, and possessing additional powers such as telekinesis and time manipulation, Mother Askani’s presence in the X-Men ’97 narrative promises to bring fresh dimensions of drama as her tale unfolds.

BONUS: Gambit

Regrettably, Remy LeBeau/Gambit was the most significant character who met his end in Season 1. He bravely confronted a Prime Sentinel, causing it to detonate and ultimately sacrificing himself to protect Rogue. However, at the conclusion of Season 1, it appeared that Apocalypse might be investigating a means to resurrect the beloved character with a flair for playing cards, potentially reintroducing him as one of his Four Horsemen in future episodes.
