X-COM Creator Is Adapting Board Game Frosthaven As Tactical RPG, Beta Begins Soon

During the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase, Arc Games unveiled that they’re developing a video game version of Frosthaven, which is based on the well-known board game. The game is being created at Snapshot Games with Julian Gollop, CEO and creator of X-COM, overseeing development. Additionally, Isaac Childres, who designed the original Frosthaven board game, is also contributing to this adaptation. From March 27 to April 24, fans will have a chance to participate in a closed beta playtest for Frosthaven. During this period, they can explore six different starting character classes and complete approximately 20 quests.

Snapshot Games is thrilled to transition Frosthaven into the digital world, as expressed in a recent press announcement. The team is meticulously recreating the beloved board game experience in this video game version, ensuring that it stays true to its roots while offering a more accessible way for both newcomers and veterans to enjoy. We believe that fans will appreciate this adaptation not just as a faithful representation of their favorite board game, but also as an engaging way to introduce the game to others.

As a devoted fan, let me share my excitement about Frosthaven, a board game that stands tall as the spiritual successor to Gloomhaven. This game has made history by being one of the most triumphantly crowdfunded games on Kickstarter. At its heart, Frosthaven invites you to master resource management, craft potent synergies between character classes, and delve into a world shrouded in grim fantasy.

Snapshot Games emphasizes that gamers must strategically weigh risk against reward when delving into the intricate systems and difficult situations of Frosthaven. Although a specific launch date has yet to be set, it is expected to appear on PC platforms eventually. Furthermore, Snapshot is currently focusing on additional features for Frosthaven such as constructing and overseeing your own outpost, strategic turn-based battles, and cooperative multiplayer modes that can accommodate up to four players.
