As a lifelong fan of both WWE and Star Trek, I can’t help but feel a peculiar sense of excitement that Becky Lynch, one of the most formidable women wrestlers in history, is joining the cast of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy”. Having watched her dominate the ring for years and seeing her acting chops on shows like “Billions” and “Young Rock”, I have no doubt that she will bring the same intensity and charisma to the bridge of the starship Enterprise.
Becky Lynch, famous wrestler from WWE, has now become a part of the “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” series, which can be found on Paramount Plus.
Lynch, who has been on a 200+ day hiatus from WWE, took to X to deliver the news via video.
After being crowned world champion, there’s only one direction left to explore – the cosmos, Lynch expressed. I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ as part of the bridge team. This journey has been absolutely incredible, working with an outstanding cast and crew, and I can hardly wait for you all to see it when it airs on Paramount Plus.
The Lass-Kicker concluded her announcement with a Vulcan salute: “Live long and prosper.”
Lynch is renowned as one of the greatest female wrestlers ever. Beyond her numerous title wins in WWE, she’s also dabbled in acting. Previously, she made guest appearances, playing herself, on the Showtime series “Billions” and the NBC comedy show “Young Rock”.
The release date for “Starfleet Academy” has yet to be determined. Lynch is among the cast members which includes Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner in this upcoming series. Earlier announcements mentioned that Holly Hunter would take on the role of both captain and chancellor of the academy, while Paul Giamatti is expected to portray the main antagonist for the season.
In the upcoming series titled “Academy”, actors Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman, and Oded Fehr, who are known for their roles in “Star Trek: Discovery”, will be reprising their characters. Additionally, Robert Picardo, a familiar face from “Star Trek: Voyager”, is also set to return to the franchise. Actress Tatiana Maslany, best recognized from “Orphan Black”, has been confirmed as a guest star. Notably, “Star Trek: Discovery” has already been approved for a second season.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” is set to explore the thrilling journeys of a fresh batch of Starfleet trainees as they grow and learn in one of the galaxy’s most esteemed locations. The series will give viewers an inside look at these young cadets as they forge connections, each chasing shared dreams of optimism and hope. As they are guided by their stern yet supportive mentors, they’ll uncover the qualities necessary to become Starfleet officers. Along the way, they’ll encounter burgeoning friendships, intense rivalries, first romantic entanglements, and a menacing adversary that poses a threat not just to the Academy but also to the Federation itself.
