In conversation with Fightful, the developer of WWE 2K25, Bryan Williams, shared that his initial thought was to incorporate a specific rule in the game. However, after careful consideration, he opted not to include it.
One aspect I was hoping to include but couldn’t, regarding Easter egg-like features, is a response when you headbutt the Samoan character. I desired it to reflect pain on the attacker instead of the character itself.
You understand my point, right? We didn’t manage to include it in the final edit, but it’s one of those impressive spots that even John Cena pulled off not too long ago. I can’t recall who attempted a headbutt on John Cena Uso, and he seemed to simply ignore it.
Never headbutt a Samoan wrestler
2K chose not to incorporate a specific rule in their game, and Williams didn’t explain the reason behind this decision. However, it’s plausible that they opted for this choice to maintain balance within the game and prevent any player from gaining an unfair advantage over others during competitive play. After all, being immune to headbutts might be exploited by strategic players.
A significant number of WWE’s present stars trace their roots back to Samoa, with Roman Reigns at the helm of a group related by blood called the Bloodline. Nevertheless, this alliance has been torn apart by internal strife since Roman lost his championship belt to the current WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes.

The match Williams mentioned was when Jey Uso, a member of Bloodline, cousin of Reigns and winner of the 2025 Royal Ruble, deflected a headbutt from Drew McIntyre during their fight. Instead of reacting to McIntyre’s headbutt, Jey “no sold” it and maintained his composure before retaliating with a counter-strike.
The “it’s riskier to headbutt a Samoan wrestler” trope has been a common theme in wrestling for many years, implying that Samoan wrestlers are so tough that performing a headbutt on them could be more harmful to the person executing it than the one receiving it.
