Writer-Director Tiger Ji Signs With UTA (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic who’s been around the block more times than I care to remember, I must say that the emergence of Tiger Ji on the global film scene is nothing short of a breath of fresh air. This young gunslinger from Hong Kong, armed with an eclectic mix of Eastern and Western influences, has already made quite the impression in his early twenties.

UTA has signed Hong Kong writer-director Tiger Ji for representation in all areas.

At 19 years old, Ji initially garnered acclaim with his acclaimed 2020 short film titled “Wuhan Driver,” which was executive produced by Jonathan Sanger (known for “Vanilla Sky” and “The Elephant Man”). The movie focuses on a Chinese Uber driver in New York City who faces financial hardships during the early stages of the pandemic. Notably, Ji received the title of ‘Filmmaker of the Future’ at the Rhode Island International Film Festival for this project.

In 2023, Bobby Lee (“Borderlands,” “Pineapple Express”) and Matt Jones (“Breaking Bad”) starred in a project titled “Death & Ramen.” This upcoming short film premiered at the Palm Springs Shortfest, where it was nominated for best comedy. The story revolves around a ramen chef who embarks on an unexpected nighttime adventure with the Grim Reaper. Along this journey, they share a bowl of noodles and explore what it means to be human.

“The film ‘Death & Ramen’ has been selected by Canal+ for global distribution, and it garnered 1 million views on YouTube within a little over a month.”

At the New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Ji focused his studies on philosophy while delving deeply into the realm of Russian literature.

I’ve had the privilege of learning from renowned filmmakers Ruben Östlund (“Triangle of Sadness,” “The Square”) and Lucrecia Martel (“La Ciénaga”). Being inspired by Hong Kong cinema, my films strive to harmoniously combine Eastern and Western aesthetics. I aim to create a unique blend of the absurd and the serious.

As a budding filmmaker, I’m nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles, where I’m meticulously crafting my debut project – a feature film adaptation of “Death & Ramen”. This exciting venture is being spearheaded by Fit Via Vi Film Productions, the dynamic team behind critically acclaimed works like “Oh Canada” and “Reality”. I can hardly contain my anticipation as we embark on this culinary and emotional odyssey together.
