As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel excited about the buzz surrounding Adria Arjona as a potential Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. Not only does her talent shine brightly among fans, but she’s already got a connection with James Gunn, thanks to our mutual love for that hard-hitting, underappreciated movie we both enjoyed back in 2017.
As a devoted admirer, I’m sharing the news that the DCEU, as we knew it, has met its end (with the exception of any multiverse appearances in the future). This means Gal Gadot may no longer be our Wonder Woman, and James Gunn and Peter Safran are on a quest to find a fresh face to embody the Princess of Themyscira.
In recent buzz, Arjona, recognized for her performances in Andor and Hit Man, is strongly favored by fans for landing the upcoming role. There’s also talk that she might have been secretly cast, sparked by director Gunn following her on Instagram.
For quite some time, Gunn has been acquainted with her, and, as Arjona herself mentioned, it was Gunn who provided her with her debut role in a major studio film.
Adria Arjona starred in James Gunn’s The Belko Experiment
In my gaming world, “The Belko Experiment” – penned by Gunn and helmed by Greg McLean – serves up a chilling blend of office politics and survival, like if ‘Office Space’ and ‘Battle Royale’ had a bloodcurdling baby. It’s a pulse-pounding, gory thrill ride that’ll make you question your next in-office team building exercise!
The story centers on Belko Industries’ workers who are compelled to kill one another for survival, leading to violent mayhem. Arjona portrays Leandra, the primary love interest of Mike, played by John Gallagher Jr., while Tony Goldwyn, John C. McGinley, and Sean Gunn also appear in the film.
Despite receiving a somewhat lackluster rating on Rotten Tomatoes (with critics at 55% and audiences at 40%), let me assure you that this film, running for a concise 89 minutes, delivers a gripping, pulse-pounding dose of dark entertainment with some grisly scenes. Keep in mind, Gunn has roots in the Troma universe, making this movie a nod to his more unconventional past.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can confidently say that my journey in Hollywood is deeply linked to James Gunn. When asked about fan casting for Wonder Woman, I proudly give him the credit for opening doors that led me here.

During a conversation with CinemaBlend, Arjona was queried regarding the possibility of her portraying Wonder Woman within Gunn’s DC Universe.
She expressed her gratitude by saying, “He was the one who introduced me to my very first studio movie, so I owe him a great deal. By the way, I’m a big fan of James Gunn,” she added. When asked about Wonder Woman, she hesitated and subtly hinted, “I’m afraid I can’t reveal anything on that topic.
In a conversation with Extra, Gunn added, “I follow Adria on Instagram, but it seemed like everyone assumed, ‘Since he’s following her, she must be Wonder Woman.’
However, he also mentioned, “She’d make an excellent Wonder Woman. I worked with her in a film eight years back. Our friendship started there, and we have known each other ever since. I didn’t simply start following her then.
During a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn shared that the script for the Wonder Woman film is currently being penned; however, no actors have been formally selected yet.
