The writer of the new Wonder Woman movie has been announced.
In December 2024, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe (DCU) officially began with the premiere of the animated series Creature Commandos. This was then followed by the release of Superman in U.S. theaters, while Peacemaker Season 2 is set to debut next month. Some upcoming projects for the DCU in 2026 include Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface.
It’s been confirmed by Gunn this month that a DCU Wonder Woman film is under development. At the time, he didn’t reveal who is penning the script.
Who is writing the Wonder Woman movie?
According to reports, the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman film is being penned by Ana Nogueira. Notably, Nogueira has previously written the screenplay for Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie, and is also involved in the DCU Teen Titans project, though its release date remains undetermined at this time.
Apart from his work as a writer, Nogueira is also known for appearing on TV series like Blue Bloods, The Michael J. Fox Show, The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, and Hightown.
At present, there isn’t much information available regarding the upcoming Wonder Woman film since the storyline is still being kept confidential and no director has been officially appointed for it. Additionally, no actor or actress has been publicly confirmed to play the character of Diana Prince.
Previously, Variety announced that due to the box office success of Superman, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios were planning to quickly advance the development of a Wonder Woman movie. However, during a recent conversation on Threads, Gunn clarified this statement by saying, “It’s important, but I wouldn’t describe it as fast-tracked. Nothing will be shot unless we can confidently ensure that the script is strong.
In addition, he dismissed a speculation that hinted DC Studios was seeking an actress with a television background, such as Supergirl’s Milly Alcock, to portray Wonder Woman. “Absolutely not,” Gunn responded. “I would never consider the medium of past work – be it TV, films, or anything else – when casting for a significant role. It’s always about finding the right person for the part. I didn’t choose Milly because of her previous roles, but because she was the most suitable candidate (However, we aren’t casting Wonder Woman yet, nor are we discussing it, until a script is completed.
Currently, there’s no scheduled premiere date for Wonder Woman. In contrast, Supergirl is set to debut on June 26, 2026.
