A woman from California, age 45, was awarded $300,000 in a lawsuit after a fall on a cruise ship. She claimed the cruise line served her an excessive amount of tequila – more than 14 shots – which contributed to the incident.
If you drink too much at a bar, you’ll likely feel sick and the staff will probably stop serving you. They might even ban you from coming back in the future.
Okay, so I was reading this crazy story about a woman named Diana Saunders. Apparently, she’s suing Carnival Cruises because she claims they served her way too much to drink on a recent trip. The Miami Herald said she’s claiming she fell really badly after having, get this, at least fourteen shots of tequila in just over eight hours! Seriously, fourteen shots? That’s a lot, and she’s saying it led to a pretty serious accident.
Saunders’ trial took place in early April, and on April 10th, the jury sided with her. She had asked the court for $250,000 from Carnival, but the jury ultimately awarded her $300,000.
Carnival Cruises set to appeal $300k ruling
Saunders maintained that the cruise line’s crew was responsible for looking after passengers—including herself—whom Carnival knew, or reasonably should have known, were behaving, or likely to behave, in a way that could endanger themselves or others on the ship.
After a serious fall while intoxicated, the 45-year-old woman suffered significant injuries, including a concussion, headaches, potential brain trauma, and injuries to her back and tailbone, as well as bruising and other pain.
A Carnival Cruises representative stated to the Miami Herald that the company disagrees with the court’s decision and plans to request a new trial and file an appeal.

I was reading about Saunders, and if she wins her appeal and gets paid what she’s owed, she could actually retire and spend the rest of her life doing what Sue Barr did – enjoying cruises! It’s amazing to think about, honestly.
After selling her house, Barr, who used to be a photographer, chose to live on cruise ships. She told Business Insider that in just six months, she traveled to three continents, got healthier than she had in years, and genuinely smiled for the first time in decades.
