In the United Kingdom, a female individual has been incarcerated following her creation of false transactions, aiming to misappropriate funds from her workplace. She intentionally falsified financial documents to channel funds into her personal bank account. Initially, she would take a modest amount, perhaps a few hundred dollars, from various places in the reports, then modify the records to suggest that those funds were no longer present.
Eventually, her employer grew wary due to unexplained financial losses. Despite numerous attempts, they couldn’t pinpoint the reason behind these significant monetary setbacks.
It’s been discovered that Katherine Greenall, aged 29, had embezzled an impressive £443,523 (approximately $601,000 USD) from her workplace over several years. This substantial sum could potentially lead to the demise of the company and possible job losses. Interestingly, a significant portion of this money appears to have been spent on TikTok.

On May 1, 2025, Greenall’s employer brought up the matter without knowing that she had been transferring money into her own account. She assured them that she would investigate the issue before requesting another £20,000 and leaving.
Instead of conventional spending such as hosting family gatherings, taking holidays, buying groceries, and indulging in high-end items totaling approximately £142,000, she funneled the remaining amount directly into her TikTok activities.
Instead of buying TikTok coins, she would use these digital tokens as a form of donation to creators on the platform. These gifts would then be visible during their live streams.
As per court documents, it’s stated that she shelled out approximately £301,162, which equals about $408,000 USD, on TikTok virtual coins. Essentially, she channeled her business profits into making donations to various streamers on the platform.
1 US dollar is roughly equivalent to 100 TikTok coins. This means that the company’s funds were used to purchase a staggering amount of about 42,472,976 TikTok coins.
In the trial, the lawyer argued that she was addicted to TikTok, a social media app, yet this argument failed in court. The judge recognized that she might have used the platform as an escape from reality, but despite this, she was given a 28-month prison sentence for her offenses.
