As a movie critic with a penchant for appreciating the growth and versatility of young talent, I must say Austin Abrams has certainly caught my attention with his latest role in “Wolfs”. The actor, who’s no stranger to shedding layers (both literally and figuratively), demonstrates an impressive range that extends beyond just physical comfort.
Austin Abrams remained unfazed when he learned that his character in “Wolfs” would be portrayed with just underwear and crew socks throughout the initial part of the movie. Given his past experience, where he donned gold spandex shorts for a significant, homoerotic dance scene on the popular HBO series “Euphoria”, this wasn’t an entirely new or daunting proposition for him.
He shared that he wasn’t overly concerned about the modest attire, stating instead that he was prepared to adapt and take on any requirements to collaborate with that particular team.
The individuals under discussion are George Clooney and Brad Pitt. In Jon Watts’ movie, which is premiering in a limited cinema release today before becoming available on Apple TV+ on September 27, these two actors portray independent troubleshooters. However, their solitary ways are disrupted when they’re compelled to conceal the (apparent) demise of Abrams’ character, who goes by the name “Kid.
On his initial day working alongside the high-profile stars, Abrams found it a mix of fear and thrill, but the pair made him feel comfortable by exhibiting extraordinary warmth, making him feel like he had known them for years, almost as if they were old friends. They were incredibly courteous about the whole situation.
Despite initially appearing as a major drug lord due to being found with four blocks of heroin, this young man isn’t a criminal mastermind but rather an innocent teenager who made the mistake of associating with the wrong crowd. To their dismay, he often speaks impulsively, blurting out words before fully thinking through his next thought.
For Abrams, crafting engaging, lengthy, winding speeches (usually spoken in stressful situations) proved to be an intriguing conundrum that he skillfully tackled by incorporating different tones.
He emphasizes the need for clarity,” he explains. “At the same time, I believe the character aims to maintain the audience’s interest and ensure they stay attentive. This is important since the story hinges on whether his character survives or perishes.
Although nothing’s confirmed as of now, Abrams appears optimistic about reprising his role for the anticipated “Wolves” sequel. He shared, “From what I’ve picked up in conversations with George and Brad about their planned storyline, it seems promising.
Zendesk (Abrams) expresses uncertainty regarding his role in “Euphoria” moving forward. The long-awaited third season, initially scheduled for production, has now been rescheduled to January. Should filming occur, the storyline will feature a time jump, with the main cast returning to set. “I’m not sure,” he says nonchalantly. “It’s unclear if they’re even planning to film it at this point.” Previous plans for production last year didn’t materialize as expected, leaving Abrams in the dark about the show’s future.
Still, he’d jump at the chance to work with showrunner Sam Levinson again. “I love Sam, and I love everyone on the cast. It was really a privilege being able to work with him, because there’s so much creativity that he has, and the whole process feels very open and creative and always moving. As a person being able to work on it, you just feel so so filled with that creative energy that he brings to it. So to be able to work with him again in any capacity would be a really be an honor.”
Without a doubt, he’s set to star in director Zach Cregger’s horror masterpiece “Weapons,” alongside Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, and Julia Garner. Although the storyline is under wraps, Abrams assures us that it boasts an exceptional screenplay worthy of such a talented cast.
He’s not jumping ahead to assume success for any of his future projects; instead, he focuses on staying grounded and dealing with the immediate tasks at hand: “I strive to keep myself anchored in the current situation as it unfolds.
