The reigning Pokemon World Champion, Wolfe “Wolfey” Glick, has expressed his enthusiasm over the latest Pokemon Champions announcement, anticipating its potential impact on competitive gameplay.
At first, Wolfey assumed that the advertisement for Pokemon Champions was advertising a Generation 10 release. This assumption was made due to Game Freak’s usual strategy of displaying clips of dedicated Pokemon fans over the years before unveiling the purpose of the ad. Yet, this time around, the commercial featured gameplay footage from titles like Pokemon Stadium along with main series installments in the franchise, suggesting something different.
Upon discovering that the game was for a Pokemon arena battle on mobile devices, Wolfey exclaimed, “Hold up, what’s going on here?” with enthusiasm. His eagerness escalated even further when he found out that the game was also playable on Nintendo Switch and boasted features such as Mega Evolution and Tera forms within the same title.

After recognizing the Pokemon Champions emblem and gaining knowledge of its premise, Wolfey expressed his excitement by pointing out the game’s resemblance to Pokemon Showdown – a platform where users can modify and engage in virtual Pokemon conflicts.
As a passionate fan, I couldn’t help but share my thoughts about Champions. It has the potential to revolutionize the entire experience! The primary hurdle for many aspiring competitive Pokémon players has always been acquiring the actual games.
He continued by expressing his excitement, “This might be the most significant shift in competitive Pokémon gaming since Wi-Fi was introduced, and I must say, it’s incredibly impressive. I’m not sure my initial response fully captured just how monumental this is.” Similarly, he predicted that following its release, if executed well and it turns out to be great, “This could revolutionize everything about the game.

Pokemon Champions could change competitive play
In simpler terms, Wolfey implies that becoming a Pokemon Champion could broaden the scope of competitive Pokemon gaming, making it easier for ordinary individuals to participate.
As a fan myself, I’d say it’s fantastic that the game design caters to both newcomers and long-time fans. For those who may have stumbled upon the series through Pokemon Go or TCG Pocket, this opens up an opportunity for them to join in, not just the hardcore players who dedicate countless hours to the RPG games when they’re released.
Transferring Pokemon from the Home app to the Pokemon Champions app would enable players to challenge more opponents for their beloved Pokemon, as they wouldn’t be limited only to those playing mainline games. This way, battles between trainers can occur anytime and anywhere, since both apps are available on smartphones.
Apart from Aaron “Cybertron” Zheng, another competitive Pokemon player expressed his views on X via Twitter, using similar words as Wolfey: “The world of competitive Pokémon is about to take a giant leap forward.
Among the highlights of the Pokemon Day Presentation, the unveiling of the new Pokemon Champions and the demonstration of Pokemon Legends Z-A garnered the greatest anticipation.
Many supporters felt disheartened due to the scarcity of updates about Gen 10 and the absence of any official word on a re-release of Pokemon Black and White.
