‘Wolf Man’ Trailer: Christopher Abbott Transforms in Bloody Horror Remake

As a seasoned cinephile who’s seen my fair share of horror films and witnessed the evolution of Universal’s monster universe, I must say the trailer for “Wolf Man” has piqued my interest. The reunion of Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both talented actors with impressive resumes, is a delightful twist. And Leigh Whannell, the mastermind behind “The Invisible Man,” at the helm? Count me in!

Howl! The initial teaser is out for “The Wolf Man,” produced by Universal and Blumhouse, featuring Christopher Abbott in the role of the iconic horror creature.

In this movie, Abbott will be sharing the screen with Julia Garner. This film represents a return to acting together for them, as they previously worked on “Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene” in 2011, which was Garner’s debut professional acting project.

Abbott, who gained recognition from her three-time Emmy-winning role in “Ozark,” and her nominated performance in this year’s “Inventing Anna” by Shonda Rhimes, is not new to the horror genre. She previously starred in the 2017 horror film “It Comes at Night.” Additionally, Abbott has been seen recently in the Oscar-nominated movie “Poor Things” and the 2019 production “Catch-22.”

The movie titled “Wolf Man” is led by director Leigh Whannell, known for co-creating the hit horror series “Saw,” as well as directing the 2020 horror success “The Invisible Man.” With a total gross of $144 million at the global box office, “The Invisible Man” stands as Whannell’s latest contribution to the horror genre. “Wolf Man” marks his fourth collaboration with Blumhouse Productions, following “The Invisible Man,” “Upgrade,” and “Insidious: Chapter 3.” Leigh Whannell works alongside Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo on the screenplay. Jason Blum is producing the film, with Ryan Gosling (originally set to star), Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner, and Whannell serving as executive producers. This production is a joint effort between Blumhouse Productions and Motel Movies.

Originally, Universal Studios planned to revive an interconnected “Dark Universe” that would reimagine classic monster movies within a single universe. However, this plan was abandoned after the disappointing critical and financial performance of 2017’s “The Mummy,” starring Tom Cruise. Discussions about the Dark Universe resurfaced online following the positive reception and success of “The Invisible Man.” Since then, Universal has released two Dracula-inspired films: “Renfield,” starring Nicolas Cage, and “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” both of which garnered mixed reviews and were considered financial flops.

“Wolf Man” is slated for release on January 17. Watch the trailer and see the poster below.
