As an avid gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tad frustrated by this latest development concerning Wizardry: The Five Ordeals. I’ve been eagerly awaiting its release on the Nintendo Switch, and the delay of the physical version is like adding a layer of ice to an already chilly wait. However, I understand that such hiccups are par for the course when it comes to pre-orders and production challenges.

GameSpark’s parent company Iid has disclosed that they are postponing the Japanese physical release of Wizardry: The Five Ordeals on Nintendo Switch to February 27, 2025. Initially, it was planned that the physical and digital versions would launch together. Nevertheless, this update doesn’t alter the digital version’s release date, which remains unchanged and is still set for January 30.

It appears the main cause for the delay in shipping the physical version was due to an unexpected surge in pre-orders for both standard and special editions. Unfortunately, the company encountered difficulties in sourcing sufficient materials to incorporate all collector edition items before the deadline. Consequently, only the digital version remains unaffected since the game port has already been completed and is ready for distribution.

The Five Ordeals is now accessible via Steam, offering complete English language support since August 2022. However, it remains uncertain whether the upcoming Switch edition will incorporate English language support as well, since the publisher hasn’t yet posted a game listing on the Japanese Nintendo eShop at this point in time.
