With planned changes, Civilization 7 has a chance to become the kind of game it should be at launch

The seventh edition of Sid Meier’s Civilization fell short for many series enthusiasts. On Steam, only half of the players are giving it a positive review, and fewer people are playing it compared to its predecessor. The developers at Firaxis Games have been working on improvements, releasing multiple updates. Now, they’ve shared their future plans which could potentially win back the faith of fans.

Civilization 7 – roadmap

The next update, 1.1.0, will be released next week, on March 4th. It will introduce:

  1. a new wonder of nature to discover – Bermuda Triangle;
  2. improvements to the heavily criticized user interface;
  3. major changes in the path and victory of cultural heritage in the modern era;
  4. option to convert Holy Cities in the Age of Discovery;
  5. possibility of dispersing independent coastal forces by navy units;
  6. changes in a few souvenirs.

After the update becomes available, you’ll find a complete rundown of all the changes published. Simultaneously, the initial segment of our premium collection titled “Crossroads of the World” will debut as well.

You’ll need to hold on until March 25 (which could potentially shift) for the next major update, labeled as 1.1.1. This exciting update will unveil another natural marvel – Mount Everest, along with enhancements to the user interface. Additionally, you can anticipate advancements in artificial intelligence and map generation, a fast travel function, the ability to rename cities, and commanders, and the second part of the “Crossroads of the World” collection will be released for the game.

In April, Firaxis plans to unveil the 1.2.0 update, enhancing the user interface and introducing features like a “one more turn” button, enabling gameplay beyond the end of the modern era, along with research queue management, and the introduction of new resource types.

The plans encompass various new features such as expanded map options, automated discovery, development kits for customization, local multiplayer mode, and improvements in AI behavior and interface design.

Admittedly, the developers have prepared an extensive roster of fresh features, making it exciting for players. Regrettably, many of these elements were absent from the game upon its launch.

The video game titled “Sid Meier’s Civilization VII” made its debut on February 11, 2025, across various platforms: personal computers (PC), PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox One (XOne), Xbox Series X/S (XSX/S), and Nintendo Switch.
