With Ariana Grande, ‘SNL’ Scores Most-Watched Episode Since Elon Musk Hosted in 2021

As a seasoned movie-goer and music enthusiast who has watched “Saturday Night Live” since its early days, I must say that Ariana Grande‘s recent performance was nothing short of spectacular! The energy, the humor, and the musical talent she brought to the table were truly electrifying.

Ariana Grande’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live” garnered its best viewership figures since Elon Musk hosted in May 2021.

On October 12th, Ariana Grande’s episode featuring musical guest Stevie Nicks attracted approximately 5.6 million viewers on NBC in real-time and same-day viewing, according to Nielsen records. However, it’s important to note that this figure does not include viewers who watched the show at a later time, as data for delayed viewing will be released at a later stage.

On Sundays and Mondays following its airing, The Grande episode of SNL was viewed more times than any other SNL episode previously on Peacock, as reported by NBC.

In my personal opinion as a movie critic, the episode featuring Ariana Grande on Saturday Night Live shattered records with an astounding 516 million views across their social platforms. An impressive 415 million of those views were attributed to the in-show skits and musical performances, showcasing the captivating allure of her talent. It’s worth noting that SNL also posts online sketches that didn’t make it to the broadcast due to time constraints.

On “Saturday Night Live,” Grande charmed audiences with the “Bridesmaid Speech” skit, a playful take on Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” and a darkly amusing sketch where she portrayed a castrated boy who had a talent for singing. The pop sensation from “Thank U, Next” appeared on the show to publicize the forthcoming film musical adaptation of “Wicked,” in which she takes on the role of Glinda.

Over the upcoming weekend on October 19th, “Saturday Night Live” is set to have Michael Keaton as its host, accompanied by Billie Eilish as the musical guest. The following episode, slated for November 2nd, will feature John Mulaney as the host and Chappell Roan as the musical guest, marking her first appearance on “SNL”.

On September 28, “SNL” commenced its fiftieth season with Jean Smart serving as the host and Jelly Roll as the musical guest. This initial episode attracted 5.3 million viewers in Nielsen’s live+same day ratings, making it the most watched premiere for an “SNL” season since 2020 (which was a year of elections). As the 2024 election campaign gains momentum, this season has reintroduced Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris, introduced Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff, and Dana Carvey as Joe Biden.

On February 16, “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) will mark its 50th season with a live special show that’s set to air during primetime. You can catch it on NBC at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time, or stream it on Peacock. SNL is produced in collaboration with Broadway Video, and Lorne Michaels, its creator, serves as the executive producer.
